My grandmother Annie Mae, was also persistent in her mission to feed the homeless, and was very relentless in her and enjoyed church. As a result of their charity and kindness I can confess from …show more content…
It was a very gloomy day met with rain. As I stepped outside of the restaurant I walked hurriedly through the puddles of water to my car. As I approached the highway I now saw the few dimming rays of sunlight as the street lights began to beam on. At a very young age, I was shown the great rewards one could receive by demonstrating acts of love, kindness, and compassion for others. I knew that I was very fortunate in who my parents were, and recognized that I had excellent role models to inherit these qualities from and observe them being put into practice. My father was a preacher, and these same qualities of love and empathy could be found at the core of his every sermon (Riggs). As I grew older, I realized that other men, who had been put into positions that boasted a similar power, abused it and instead decided to preach their own selfish messages to whatever gullible ears they fell upon. I was blessed, though, with a father who never focused on throwing words of shame and guilt at others.…

I have worked with many families in the past, and I believe I have applied some of the humility, compassion and positivity that the textbook talks about. I believe that the knowledge that is gained through textbooks and by attending classes is important as well as the skills that are gained through practice when working with families. In my personal experience, I come from a very poor family, which allows me to be humble with those families who are in need. I have experienced the separation of parents, the absence of basic needs, like clothing or food, and I have also experienced the anxiety of being undocumented. I think that as I gain the knowledge and skills, I will be able to integrate it with my personal experiences and I will be able…

More than 10,000 people are homeless in Atlanta on any given night, and I was given the opportunity to go and help them. A year and a half ago I went up, from my lovely suburban hometown in Orlando, Florida, to the urban hub of Atlanta, Georgia with my local church’s youth group to help out with the homeless epidemic. Being a veteran of mission trips, I was prepared to help out people who needed help and let the kindness of God move through me like a beacon of love, but I was never prepared for all of it to change the way I viewed life. Morals inculcated in me on that trip still affect my decisions to this day. Morals such as being selfless, having patience, and having empathy profoundly define me as a person because of this trip.…
