The Hillsborough Middle School Girls Lacrosse Team had an exceptional season, finishing with a strong record of 11-5. They managed to score a whopping 147 goals, and 19 out of the 22 players contributed to that miraculous number. Although the team suffered a tough loss during the semi-finals in a close game against Montgomery, they each blossomed as not only players but people. Tessa Norfleet, one of the team's three captains, shared her thoughts on the season. She stated, “Though we unfortunately did not win the championship this year, it’s important to see how far our team has come since tryouts.…
I was a captain for my high school team so I was sure I would make it, but that led me to my despair. Consequently, I got cut. I didn't try as hard as I should have, and…
My hands gripped my lacrosse stick tightly and my eyes stared at the ball, which was trapped between two girls. I waited. I waited for the whistle to sound and the ball to fly in the air, the yellow of it vanishing into the sun. I was ready. I could hear the steady breathing of the girl next to me and the beating of my heart.…
I started running as my player hit the box, I took off my cheats hit the ground they slammed pulling up the rubber beads as I ran. I set up against the player coming down I put my pole in front of me and poke the opposing player. It was a warm cool summer day with a nice windy breeze, I was in maryland for a lacrosse tournament. I was playing for my travel team Koopers and were playing against one of our rivales Crabs lacrosse we were both one of the best teams in maryland and top 10 in the world.…
Put Down As soon as the lacrosse coach came over to the side of the beat up field my heart sank. You could feel the tension in the warm spring air. Five people were going to go to the third and fourth grade team from ours. My heart was pounding. I was hoping I would stay on this team.…
I would definitely consider the job that I had during my internship as a future career. Lacrosse is something that I am very passionate about, and I want it to be part of my life even after I stop playing. I am also really interested in business administration and sports management. My internship gave me the opportunity to grow and expand my skill set, and also learn a great deal about what I want to do after college. Interning at Revolution Lacrosse (REV), I was able to learn so much about sports management, how it works, and how it can be applied in the workforce.…
I played sophomore baseball for Senior over the summer. It was the best season I've ever had as a Dubuque Senior High School baseball player. I was the pitcher on the team, also known as the "Ace". Before the last couple of games we had an anonymous team vote on which award people should get. At the end of the season we had a potluck with the varsity team and the sophomore team.…
I became very embarrassed the moment I was kicked off the baseball team. The moment Presley and I got into it during the summer of 2016 really sticks out to me because it's the reason I moved to Galatia. The summer before my junior year of high school my school got a new superintendent. His name is Mike Gauch.…
One situation where I found myself in a fixed mindset was when I was a freshman at Mountain Pointe high school trying to make the baseball team. At the time, I had a half-hearted passion for baseball that made me want to be on the school baseball team, but I felt that everything would come natural to me because I was Dominican. I was quite proud of how Dominicans were typically great at baseball quite naturally it seemed. However, with this knowledge I became highly critical about everything I did when playing baseball at the high school camps before the baseball tryouts. I did not focus on overall improvement as I tried to ensure that every throw, batting, and pitch was perfect.…
The game of Lacrosse and the Mastermind behind Lacrosse Camps, Jon Urbana Lacrosse is a team sport that is played using a lacrosse stick. The first intercollegiate lacrosse game in the US was played on November 22, 1877 between Manhattan College and New York University. This was after the game was introduced in upstate New York in the 1860’s. One organization that has been at the forefront of promoting lacrosse across the state of Colorado in recent years is the Next Level Lacrosse Camp (NLLC).…
My life, in the last four years, has had ups and downs. One of my biggest setbacks was being let go from the lacrosse team my junior year of high school. Up until my junior year, I had played lacrosse for 10 extremely successful years. Growing up I was always one of the best elite lacrosse players in the state. As a result, I played for teams that represented Rhode Island and even New England.…
The sense of family is what I enjoyed most about being part of the hockey team. We all look out for each other and support each other. We focus on the positive. We do not ignore the negative, we address it and move on. We are there for each other during the season as well as the off-season.…
While in middle school every young girl’s dream was to be on the varsity cheer team. While the last week in September we started trying out. I swear that whole week I felt sick and could not eat anything unless I wanted it to come right back up! After school we went straight to practice until 5:30. The older cheerleaders took this to heart and got so mad at us when we started joking around.…
An Athlete’s Worst Nightmare Imagine you are going along playing the sport you love, when all of a sudden you hear a pop, your knee gives out, and you are on the ground in pain. This happened to me not once, but twice. After going to the doctor both times, they figured out I tore my ACL.…
At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…
