“Pepper!!” The voice echoed up the stairs.
“Pepper!! Get out of bed this minute!!” Pepper’s Mom shouted over the screaming of the baby in the background. “If you’re late to school again, you’re grounded for a month!”
Pepper rolled over and pulled the covers up to her chin. “Just five more minutes,” she whispered to herself. Pepper thought about how the day would unfold. She’d show up to school and the math teacher, Mr. Blotson, would give her a disappointed look because she hadn’t simplified the fractions the night before. “Pepper! …. Pepper! Pepper Pepper!” Stephanie exclaimed in short bursts. “Pepper why didn’t you straighten your hair?! It looks…” Stephanie looked down at her feet. Pepper pulled the Westridge High hat down lower over her forehead.
“Pepper, I just got the best news!! Pepper, you aren’t going to believe it! Adam’s older brother is throwing a party and we can get invited!” Stephanie practically shouted.
Pepper coughed up a piece of the breakfast burrito she had been choking down before Mr. Blotson’s class started. Not only would Blotson be upset Pepper had not simplified the fractions, but he would also complain that she was getting Chipotle sauce on the desk if she ate in his class.
“Whaaaa?!” Pepper coughed.
“Yea, Pepper. It’s a space party! Isn’t that cool? A space party!” Stephanie’s eyes got bigger and bigger as she repeated ‘space
