Personal Narrative: I Just Give Up My Horse

Improved Essays
Have you ever wanted to just give up on someone? Did they make you angry or upset? Well my horse did exactly that when he threw me off and broke my wrist. I was so angry and upset at him, I just wanted to get rid of him. I didn’t work him for 3 months and had to retrain him under saddle. I am glad today I didn’t give up on him and decide to get help in retraining him. When I look back at the first time I fell off my horse and broke my wrist, I wonder why it took so long for me to get back on and ride again. It was September 2011 and my father told me about a horse my aunt found for sale for only a few dollars. It was only a year ago when we had to but my horse Ginger down due to her age and health, and I finally wanted to get a new horse. …show more content…
I rode once already this spring but I wanted to ride again with my mother and brother Jesse since we have two more horses. We all saddled up our horse and began to ride in the pastures. I was a nice day to have a nice day and we even had our fire pit lite which normally doesn’t bother our horse because it is far away from the pasture but you can still see it. We rode around for probably an hour before the unexpected happened. We were just walking around until Zeke decide to jump, turn, and take off running. I was not expecting it so I slide to the side of the saddle and was hanging off side of my horse. Everything was happening so fast I didn’t know what to do but when I looked up all I saw was the side of the lean-to which is in the pasture to protect our horses again the weather. I decide to fall off my horse because otherwise I would hit the building. I remember hitting the ground and I move instantly to the outside of the pasture with tears running down my face. I was so upset and scared, I really didn’t know what happen since it happened so fast. I looked down at my arm because it hurt so badly and it was two or three times the size it is supposed to be. I had to get up and catch my horse who was running around and unsaddle him before I worried about my arm, which was killing me. I caught my horse, unsaddled him, and put him in his stall while tears were running down my face. My brother Joey helped me unsaddle him …show more content…
They all were saying it was only sprained and that I would be fine after I iced it and wrapped it for a few days, but I knew that is was broken, so we called my dad who was at work. My dad was almost done with work since it was 6 o’clock at night, so he took off and came home to see what is going on. When he got home we decided that I needed to go to the hospital to make sure it was not broken. When we first arrived to the Burlington Walk-In Clinic I had to wait in the waiting room for about 20 minutes before the nurse called me back. At this point is was not been crying. I nurse looked at my wrist and made me touch all my fingers to my thumb which I could do with my index finger and my middle finger pretty easily but the other two finger I couldn’t even get close. Then the nurse took me to get x-rays done. That took about 20 minutes because it was hard for me to lay the back of my hand and arm flat on the table. After that she sent me back to the exam room where my mom was waiting for me. We waited for about a half hour before the nurse came back in room and told me the new. I had a broken wrist. She explained how it was a hair line fracture on my radius and that it wasn’t bad. Next she took me into another room where we wrapped my arm with an ace bandage wrap and a fabric board so I couldn’t move my wrist until I got it casted

She was rubbing special stuff all over my arm and told me that the next park was gonna hurt a bit. I looked at my parents, and they said everything was going to be fine. She poked an IV into my arm, when 2 anesthesiologists, one on the older side, and one very young walked in and started to make really corny jokes.…

When I was young, my sister and I never got along well. Neither of us were afraid to voice our thoughts, but we had opposite personalities, so that was an enormous complication. She would constantly whine whenever I practice the violin or piano that I was too loud and it was drowning out the music she was listening to. In return, I would always retort that her music was too loud and distracting. Well, I never actually called it “her music”: I referred to it as “garbage”.…

Once I had been examined and x-rayed, I was placed into a room. The orthopedic doctor that was at that hospital reviewed my x-rays and determined that it was a severe enough break to have someone from Children’s Hospital in Chicago come to the hospital I was at. Once the doctor from Chicago had had enough time to study my scans and get to the hospital, he said that he wanted to put me under anesthesia to put my cast on. The cast was not a normal soft cast, there was a metal plate placed within it to try and push my bone back into place without needing surgery. While under, they placed skin glue on my chin to heal the deep cut I received- if they would have done stitches, I would still have the…

What is summer? The majority of kids, if asked, will tell you that summer signifies the end of school, the start of fun and freedom. You will find some kids at the pool, the mall, or sleeping in. Many stay home and play video games, while others go to the beach. Instead of spending my time at the pool or with friends, I hung-out with furry, four-legged beast and some rambunctious two-legged, little people.…

I started to gain a larger respect for the art itself and the commitment and dedication to be able to build a team with a horse. I grew apart from my barn; but I still kept the family I made by riding there. I slowly started to distance myself from the show atmosphere at the barn and started to go to a small family barn instead. The barn was nestled in the Blue Ridge foothills in Sedalia, Virginia. I grew an admiration for the towering appalachian mountains that acted as my ring borders instead of pieces of stained oak.…

I’ve realized in my lifetime that saddling a horse that you are going to ride is not as natural of an act to other people as it is to me. Since the moment I had both the strength and height to lift my own tiny saddle up to the back of my animal, I was saddling by myself. These days in the time that I set aside to ride, I don’t even think about the act of saddling, I could almost finish the act blindfolded. In my realization that not all people know how to saddle a horse and if they have an idea it may not be the proper way, I decided to share my knowledge in this area with others.…
