So we began planning to move to a new area with my father who was still in Korea. In the fall of 2012, we originally planned to move to western Virginia, and had a contract with a home builder. We planned to move into our new home in the beginning of 2013, but an unexpected major contract dispute occurred with the builder later. Due to my father’s absence, I had to act on my parents’ behalf. I had engaged in a long legal battle with the builder, reviewing every detail of the twenty page contract numerously to prepare for counterarguments against the builder. After consulting with her new doctors, she began an intensive physical therapy. During the first several months after the move, I began the long process of unpacking and settling into our new home while taking care of my mother. Being a caretaker was compounded by my mother’s worsening condition as I took over the responsibility of cleaning the house, getting groceries, cooking, doing laundry, handling all the bills, driving for my mother, and taking care of all the medical business. Eventually, my full time caretaking roll made it all easier for her to manage her condition. At the end of 2014, she had another major surgery for neck disc replacement. But as we expected, the surgery was very successful, and she has been improving her condition steadily.
