Timid and unsure, I went to my first track practice as a freshman. At first I was nervous, but after a few minutes my teammate’s welcoming smiles and greetings made me feel comfortable. Feeling as if I was a member of a massive family, my self-assurance blossomed. Success at my meets has stemmed from confidence and skill that Lake Central track has provided me; without confidence, my skill would be muffled. Having to pack, plan, and perform for meets that are five hours away or right at home, I had no choice but to be reliable and devoted to excellence or I may risk not performing proficiently and allowing my grades to slip. Being held accountable for my schedule has undoubtedly prepared me for living on a college campus and adhering to a college schedule. Accountability will also benefit me in my future career. A career in dermatology will produce a hectic schedule that only in control and prepared individuals can manage. The lessons Lake Central athletics have taught me in responsibility, commitment, and accountability has prepared me to handle new, stressful situations that my future may bring
