Personal Narrative: My Beliefs

Decent Essays
Within the past four years I have learned a lot about myself, my beliefs, and my goals in life. I have learned I am a positive, hardworking, respectful and confident student, friend, and daughter. I have challenged my beliefs year to year and hopefully will continue to do so more in the future. I believe that to survive life you must be truly happy. To be truly happy it is important to surround yourself with others who truly love you and to most importantly love yourself. I believe in always being positive, I can honestly say I am good at that. I believe everyone comes into a persons life for a reason and it is our job to learn from our experiences with others and grow from them. Finally, I have discovered my biggest goal and passion in life.

Tasked with crafting a personal moral philosophy, I ultimately started with one question to energize my efforts and frame the problem: what is a moral philosophy? Moral philosophy as defined by Merriam Webster dictionary is the study of human conduct and values. Conduct and values are words that I can easily identify with and thus the metacognition phase began. It is often naturally assumed that everyone can rattle off in a sentence or two, a philosophy that guides them however, I struggled with coalescing defined and abstract ideas into a coherent set of principals that represent the values, that have been shaped, modified, or changed by my life experiences. I have been conditioned, much like many organizational leaders to have an appreciation for acronyms.…

Everyone is shaped by the surrounding world. Whether that comes from one person or several, it is inevitable to deny this fact. Our worldviews are most commonly shaped from those who we are in close proximity to or share deep relationships with. When I think about my worldview and what has influenced it, there are several people who have shaped it to be the way it is today. The two that stand out to me the most are my church small group leader Kari and my high school English teacher, Mrs. Kestle.…

Knowing my values help me to set limits on what kind of client I’ll be able to work with, and who I’ll have a problem communicating with. It is necessary to know your values because it would soothe the tension between you and the client, and help you learn to keep a professional relationship between you two. For me to understand my values better, I always look into my family background, where I came from, and my religious belief. My years exposed to certain things, and never been exposed to another have shaped how I viewed life, and how I see people.…

One’s values and beliefs about the world we live in are constructed through real life encounters, as well as teachings that they may have experienced though their lives. My personal paradigm is based around my ethical view on life. I adopted a consequentialist view which is also a very controversial because it brings the idea that you could make immoral decisions without consequence, as long as the outcome had benefitted the most people or had the best outcome. For me in most cases, making decisions based on the ethical morality of the means in a situation puts a stop to progress, leads to less desirable outcomes, and demonstrates actions that maybe come of as a very selfish way of making choices. There are people that say…

It is always very hard to interact with people whose experiences or beliefs that differ from your own and it’s especially hard if you’re an introverted person who would rather just enjoy the comfort of working by themselves like myself. However, I have had to endure the undesirable decision to work with people who hold different beliefs and experiences than I do. There have been times where I have thoroughly enjoyed working with others; however, there have been times where I’ve wished that I could have worked by myself. In my junior year of high school, I had signed up for a class called AP Capstone Seminar that called for the students to collaborate with other individuals in the class to create a argumentative essay and present a presentation.…

I believe in my life right now that I am in the stage of Personal Faith. The reason I believe I am in this stage is because I’ve had times where I doubt my faith and question certain beliefs. I believe I am in the Personal Stage of faith is because I no longer follow a crowd, I am comfortable in my own skin, my own beliefs, and actions. I have removed myself from the influence of others and groups. In my Personal Faith stage I also have become independent and take responsibility of my personal beliefs and actions.…

Pretty soon, I began to appreciate my life as a human being and to be grateful for what I have. It took me awhile to finally grasp the notion, ultimately, it turns into a habit to me. Every day, I tried to remember to think positive and , sometimes, I caught myself doing the opposite.…
