I always felt like everyone had a special talent accept me. Some could paint, act, play sports, but that was never me. I was just a little girl being bullied for having a blanket and sucking my thumb in first grade. Always left out and being told I would never amount to much, took a big toll on my grades. All throughout elementary school I was in the “special” classes.…

This is my last year of cheer and I have grown so much as a person by choosing to do this amazing sport. Cheer has become such a huge part of my life along with all my teammates and others at my gym. I never thought I would make so many close bonds with this many people. It is really going to be a bittersweet moment when I have to go off to college. I did not go into this sport thinking that I would come out of it being more outgoing than I had ever thought possible.…

My most meaningful and rewarding leadership activity is paving the way for my Varsity Volleyball team to play in the lower state championship game during my senior year. Our practices consisted of two hours long and five days a week of different strategic drills. This constant tough process led to poor attitudes and technique. Although my personality is timid, I took it upon my self to step out of my comfort zone and respectively confront my teams stagnant standpoint. Through this approach, I was taken very seriously.…

Being a competitive swimmer for the past 10 years has exposed me to meeting a lot of new people. My adult role models along with my closest friends are all apart of my swimming career in some way. I was honored enough to be named a captain of my high school swim team, a recognition only few receive as our team is 50 members large. Being a captain not only meant leading stretches and getting a cool award at the end of the year, it meant people looked up to me. When someone had a bad race or needed some encouragement, I was the person they turned to.…

Trying out for volleyball was the best decision I made as a freshman. I didn’t know much about the sport at the time; all I knew was that it seemed like a complicated version of ‘Don’t let the balloon touch the ground’. Nevertheless, it seemed fun and I wanted to give it a try. As the years when on, my volleyball team became my community, my second family. The camaraderie you have with your teammates is undeniable; you share an unbreakable bond.…

The moment all the tyros were broken up and my team was the only one without a corporate advisor, the grumbling started. I knew there would be some trouble when you consider that this was their chance to grab one of those open positions and the other teams would have a clear advantage over us. After everything I had gone through just too graduate, deal with my father’s accident, the double your pleasure skank twins living at my house with their mother, and the team member from hell who had spoken rudely to Mr. Trystan, I would be damn if I was going to put up with any crap. “If anyone feels that they are not up to the challenge, I wish you luck on your next attempt to gain employment here. During my time in high school I tried hard to be a leader in both the classroom and the locker room but it was always shown more throughout my participation in athletics. I always volunteered for helping out in tournaments held at our school or in grade 12 my leadership was noticed and I was picked to be a “Trojan in Black”. This was a small hand picked group of senior students that were chosen to represent the school for newcomers coming into our high school. We were required to host BBQ’s for Grade 9 orientations and show new students where everything was in the school. There were also leadership workshops held for the “Trojans in Black” where we could learn and brainstorm new ways to better everyone’s overall experience in high school and…
