My Communities

Say goodbye to your childhood fantasies and step into the real world
Look up to the ever changing skies, occasionally dark grey fill with heavy clouds
Clouds that cover the beauty of the blue skies above
Blue Skies that hold the bright beaming sun
Every so often the heavy grey clouds, the sun and the beautiful blue skies align perfectly
In this perfection we see on of nature most precious sights
So common, yet so rare it takes your breath away
A spectrum of light that instantaneously curls your lips into a smile
No matter how fast and fleeting it may be
Similar to a love lost, it cause a spectrum of light in your heart
In the chaos of life, if we pause and look up we just might feel that rapid heart beat fueled by true bliss

As a preemptive measure she enrolled me in Pima Partnership High School, a school focused on troubled youth and saving kids that had no chances left of redemption in Tucson Unified School District. This is where I met my two best friends and my most influential mentor. Adriana took the place of my sister and became my support system; she helped me move from the awkward tomboy phase into a young adult. I started actually brushing my hair wearing female clothes and caring about how I presented myself to the world. Mike was the first person I met at PPHS; I remember walking in and seeing him sitting at the registration desk with his feet kicked up like he owned the place. In high school Mike and I didn’t actually get along we just had the same group of mutual friends later in life we found something to bond over and now were like brother and sister. Harry Kressler, he was a man I truly admire. He saved so many adolescent lives by proving a school that turned into a safe, warm, welcoming community. Once you walked into the front doors you left everything outside, gang members left their colors at the door and bridges were built that eventually moved into the neighborhoods that many students lived in. He is who I want to live my life after; if I can fill just a fraction of his foot prints on this earth I will have succeeded in life. After

Since I was born, New York City has been my life, my blood, and bones; I have grown and lived with many different people with different backgrounds. My neighborhoods have shaped me into who I am today, I am flexible and open, like raw clay, enough to be changed and formed. Then there is the Bronx, a borough of New York, where you have to be strong, or you will not survive, a place where all races are together, and everyone is noisy. I live in a community where there are mostly Hispanics, and where there are always car passing by and honking, during the day it is the only sound you can here, and ear-piercing bird calls, but during the night there is always some kind of party, either that or just really loud music. I have grown to get use…

A person that has helped me grow into the man I am today is my high school baseball coach Steve Leake. From the first day I stepped on the diamond he saw something in me that nobody except my grandfather had told seen. The four years that Coach Leake and I spent together trying to capture the schools first state championship ring were some of the greatest seasons I ever played. As a new school year began I made the decision to go to a different school for high school. I began lost on that first day, but it became easier when I noticed a flyer on one of the many colorful boards around the school.…

Mrs. G helped them realize that it is possible to like people even though they are different from your family and friends. Mrs. G reassured the students that if they worked hard as a team they could do just about anything. For example, they worked hard to get a hold of Meip to come speak at Woodrow Wilson School in Long Beach, California. Meip housed Anne Frank from the Nazi’s during the Holocaust, so she was a survivor of the…

I remember the day before my first day at Pennoyer. I was sad and happy, scared, and mad all at the same time. I remember crying and yelling at my parents to not make me go to school that next day. The next day I showed up at school and remember walking into Mrs. Michael’s third grade class and seeing all of these new people that I would be friends with for years to come. At this school is where I made new friends, great memories, and where I grew up from a little kid into a young adult.…

Throughout the years I have grown up here. The outstanding teachers and caring classmates welcomed me, like they welcome everyone else who walks through the doors. I am different than I was back then, pigtails aren’t really my thing, but through all of my growth, no matter what, I was able to be who I am. I think that is what I will remember most about my funny, unique, athletic, kind, incredibly intelligent classmates. We have all become one big family, despite our differences these people have become my closest friends.…

I am someone who smiles Someone always telling jokes to make sure no one thinks something is wrong So no one suspects a thing when they see my smile I am someone who fixes the feelings of those whose hearts are shattering like pieces of glass I am someone who loves to dress up and wear makeup so no one sees how truly I am From the bags from staying up at night to the red from crying, both under the concealer Tears behind my eyeshadow-covered eyelids Cracks underneath my red lipstick And the pain within the mouth that contains whitened teeth…

We - as civilization - are shaped by our interactions with people. Some people have an engaged personality; generally bold or active. Other people tend to have a shy or introverted personality, preferring to be engaged in a small group of friends and stray from large groups. I am both partially introverted and extroverted, but prefer the latter. Reading is such a major part of my life; from the time I could comprehend the written word, I had always turned towards book.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…
