Personal Narrative: My Experience As A CAV Crew Leader

Almost four years ago, I entered Clackamas High School as a confused, shy, awkward freshman. Soon after entering the hallways of this school, I was assigned to a Freshman Assurance group and met with the group leaders. My group leaders were vivacious seniors, who were condescending and gave very little advice on high school. I felt a little intimidated by them, and the activities that they led made most of the freshmen in our group uncomfortable. They told us about their craziest stories and about the teachers who weren't of the most pleasant experience. Their so-called advice made me feel worried about beginning high school, and I was nervous for the next few days and years to come. I wanted to ensure that these groups of freshmen feel safe, prepared, and excited for all of the valuable opportunities available at CHS. In a way, I feel that I am helping them begin a fresh, new journey by guiding them in the right direction for success. From my experiences as a CAV Crew leader, I have developed a newly ignited passion for service and leadership. Even to this day, I can walk through the hallways and recognize some freshmen in my past groups and check in with them as a fellow Cavalier and friend. It is a rewarding feeling to know that I have made some difference–big or small–in the lives of those students. I also encourage my peers to join CAV Crew while also inspiring many past freshmen in my groups to take on these leadership roles as well. Participating in CAV Crew was one of the best decisions I’ve made in high school. I have thoroughly enjoyed my three years of contribution, and I have gained a greater sense of confidence in myself. I am grateful for these past experiences and helping others to strive and leave a lasting impact at
