Personal Narrative: My Magnificent Experience In Nature

My Magnificent Experience in Nature Imagine a sunlit sea, the deepest blue the eyes can see. The waves are forming and crashing with grace and the sharp smell of salt lingers in the air. In the distance, birds mimic the sounds of boats passing. I had always felt a mutual appreciation with the sea, it was as though we both enjoyed eachothers company. In that moment as the sun lingered above, every ripple the tide brought in and every breeze from the surface felt harmonious. I’ve had many lovely experiences in nature, but there has always been something unique about the ocean. Maybe, it’s because I was raised in Mendocino, or maybe it's something more deep and meaningful than that. Early on in grade school, I became obsessed with the …show more content…
I spent my weekends making booklets of the most advantageous species in the ocean that I could find and made a bio for each one. I loved to watch national geographic and sharkweek -of course-, but most of all I loved the entirety of the ocean. Now to my story… Over the summertime I visited the beach a few times, but the weekend after it ended I had a longing for the ocean. However, I wanted this visit to be different and I felt as though I needed a change of pace. I’ve swam in the ocean and been boating upon it, but i’d never had the marvelous experience to ride the waves. We ran toward the waves with our boards pressed on the side of our abdomen and hips. The feel of sea drizzle upon my toasted red cheeks I just couldn't help but smile. As the moon pulled the tide in and out, time was not apparent in my mind. The first attempts proved that I wasn't a natural-born surfer by any means. Then all at once, the perfect curl begun to emerge, my heart racing and chills climbing up my spine. Floating for a split second, …show more content…
I have always taken as much as I can from my personal experiences and use them to better my own life. My experience with the ocean has opened up a new way of thinking and from that I have gained so much. The waves are the representation of unexpected change; as you sit upon the waves waiting for the perfect form, they can come so quickly that you don't have time to react. I have applied this into my life by not being completely discombobulated as change occurs. I know that change is inevitable and there is no way to stop it, however you can change your reaction by slowing down and looking at the big picture. The moon pulls the tide in and out without thought, there is no hesitation whatsoever. We as natural born humans can over think many things. Such as, a minor life choice, a major life choice, and even the simplest tasks. Although, sometimes it's good to just go with the flow of things and jump in with no hesitation without being rash. The winds bring in debris to the shore, mostly random things, but occasionally a beautiful seashell. People will come and go in our lives, but some stand out and stick around. I like to picture them like seashells, they’re intricate, unique, and worth keeping. As the sun shines above creating heat and light for the creatures below, it’s almost like the sun looks after them. As I looked into the flaming ball of light, It was as though I

When my friends arrived we dove into the shallow end of the beach and acquainted our bodies with the cold, late Summer temperature.…

In mid October early in the morning the day was crisp and chill. The sun was just burning the morning fog off of the lakes cool waters. The dew on the grass and trees was glistening from the sunlight and the bird were singing their songs of jubilee . The entire woods were peaceful and still, and the sunrise was magnificent. During this moment I realized how beautiful nature is when the outside world is a distant memory, and all we need to do is take advantage of the little things life gives us and never stress the big ones too much.…

Approaching the crest of the dune with palpable expectation, I glimpsed the height of the swell, curling around the horizon. My thoughts became muted as I whisked down the path with my board clanging against my side. Strapping in, I was soon drifting down the beach inches at a time, my feet dangling numb to the hypothermic waters. As the sun was just a few hours from setting into the waving seagrass, thoughts became gradually amplified as a feared local was anticipated to arrive; the illuminating glimpses of stray rocks beneath the lulling surface assured me there was nothing lurking beneath. I had commenced with my usual, self-taught execution of faceplants into the wave’s breaking face when I heard the scattered remains of a shout amid the seaweed saturated seaspray.…
