Personal Narrative: My Pursuit Of Change

Improved Essays
My experience growing up was a lot different than most kids. My father is actively servicing in the United States Air Force, and my family and I moved to different place frequently. I believe that change is a part of who I am. Do not get me wrong, it was hard leaving my home and friends every time it was time to move. Although I feel strongly that this is what makes me who I am today. Likewise, with academic intuitions, this change to me is not a bad thing but a blessing to start fresh. The intention of switching academic intuitions is merely because of my background with having to overcome change. Now it has become a habit of mine that I quite enjoy. Change can open a lot of opportunities for someone. Like myself, change opened me up to becoming …show more content…
Human should rationally engage in activity that they will pursued their excellence. I believe that Aristotle was right, that the goal in human existence is to strive for the very best of our ability. When I was growing up I enjoyed playing baseball. Although I would always dread having to go to practice, but I went anyhow and went through the motions just so I could play in the games. My father took notice and told me “it is more work to go through the motion and half-ass everything, then you just putting in the work to get something out of it in the end.” My father was right; I took what he said to heart. Just by showing up to practices, will not end with the best outcome. My father believes that half-assing took more energy and time than the effort it took to achieve something to the best of one’s ability. I also took on this belief, where my goal is to strive for the best outcome possible and nothing less. Although the outcome may not be what I want to turn out, if I knew I was putting in my full effort then I would be satisfied with my efforts.
My intention of transferring to the Illinois State University is because I feel the intuition will help me gain virtues to achieving excellence. With everything the University offers to their students, I’m looking forward to this change in my academic career. It is my goal to strive for excellence and overcome challenges that might come my way. Furthermore,

The inspiring memoir, Discovering Wes Moore, written by Wes Moore teaches the reader many life lessons, which are included in the themes of the memoir. This first example of Wes Moore’s life teachings is “But hard work and putting in the effort to be good at something matters” (Moore 142). This quote from Wes Moore is important to me because when I work hard and put in my best effort I succeed immensely. When I read this fragment of Discovering Wes Moore, I am reminded that everything that I do, whether it is academic studies, dance, soccer, or piano, it should be done with my best exertion. If you are diligent with your work and doing your best you will succeed and achieve greatness throughout life.…

"What is a practice and why should I participate in it?", an athlete may ask. Practice is a performance of an activity or an exercise of a skill that is repeated many times to improve or maintain one's proficiency. Athletes should participate in practices because it allows them to improve and gives them the opportunity to achieve their full potential through sport. It allows athletes to develop lifetime values of sportsmanship to become a better person and prepares them technically, physically, tactically, and mentally for game situations. In the book Psychology for Musicians by Percy C. Buck (1944) says, "An amateur practices until he can do a thing right, a professional until he can't do it wrong.…

Striving for excellence can inspire someone to be better. For example, Judy in the beginning of training camp almost completely failed at every task, and her instructor told her to just quit. She never gave up, and she kept trying and improving herself to be better than she was when she began. An article written by Hans Wrang, he wrote “Striving for excellence and every day you will see the results of your pursuits as you focus on the incremental improvements you have achieved.” This shows that improving and getting better each and every day is good because there is always something to improve.…

Change is seen differently by different people. Some accept it while others deny it, depending on their values and mentality. Similar to almost everyone, life presented me with a chance of change when I was fairly young, end of 4th grade to be exact. I was asked by my parents to switch schools from a local medium to international medium of studies in India.…

I was thrust into a completely new environment: new school, new swim team. And I knew nobody and nothing.…
