The purpose of this lab was to determine what vegetation was present above and below the water’s surface and to observe the water visibility depth at Noxubee Refuge. We collected samples of data from the two different lakes at Noxubee Refuge. The two lakes were Bluff Lake and Loakfoma Lake.…

With such a deep and sincere love of the historical value of the Bulow Plantation, the state park rangers want to share the vast history that once occurred on the 2,200 acres of cleared land owned by the Bulow family. There are several ways the state park rangers promote the land so that as many people can enjoy it as possible. One of the ways they advertise is by attracting active outdoor people to go on the many hiking trails and bicycling trails or for the water lovers to drop a small powerboat at the drop off or canoe and/or kayak through the various channels of water. When traveling these routes they say you have the possibility of seeing Bald eagles, Swallow-tailed Kites, and Florida Manatees. Bulow attracts others by providing some handicap…
Up in the North woods, where the wolves howl and the bucks run wild, there lives a man who devotes his life to living off the land. This man, Jerry Saum, a crude and renegade type character, has lived in Saum, Minnesota for his whole life. Saum, MN lies 45 miles directly North of Bemidji, and two miles East of the Red Lake Indian Reservation. I have known Jerry Saum for five years, due to my deer hunting shack that sits four miles South of Saum. In my early years deer hunting up North, Jerry would frequently come down to the cabin, always wearing a Busch Light sweatshirt or the local Saum Fire Department crewneck.…
In 2011 my family and I took a trip out West in an RV. My family consists of my parents, older brother Patrick ( now a sophomore at Madison), younger brother Declan ( now a sophomore at MUHS), and my younger sister Nora ( now in 8th grade). We were all there for this trip just younger. On our trip one of the main attractions we stopped at for a few days was at the Grand Teton National Park in Jackson Hole Wyoming. The Tetons are a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming.…
I am currently stuck inside of General Zaroff’s cabin who is planning to hunt me in a couple of days, yes hunt ME, a human being. My life is in a lot danger, and there are few ways to possibly escape. Please send help as soon as possible! I never really knew what Ship-Trap Island was or why it had that nickname, but what I did know was that the island had an eerie reputation among ships and sailors. By now all the pieces of the puzzle sure have been put together for me.…
Ferry Beach State Park is located in Saco Maine, between Old Orchard Beach and Camp Ellis. The park is nestled on 117 acres of beautiful land ranging from forested areas with luscious trees, to white sand beaches. One of the most popular draws to the park are the hiking trails where you can spend an afternoon taking in the awe inspiring views of the different eco systems that have made themselves at home and flourished. The trails are littered with man-made bridges that perch you above the floor of the park where you can look over all the different types of plants, and moss that lay on the floor. You are eye level with most of the shrubs and have a beautiful elevated look of the trees where you can see more of the detail than you would with being on the ground.…
Anna Maria Island is a special place to visit in Florida. This beautiful barrier island is located in Manatee County on Florida's west coast in the Gulf of Mexico. I've been there three times to stay at my Papa and Grandma's condo on family vacations, and I am fond of it there! When we visit, we see beautiful palm trees and nature, and we go to many wonderful places on the island. One place I really love is Fire and Stone Pizza!…
The Political Ecology of Management and Conflict in Tule Lake and Lower Klamath Lake Wildlife 'Refuges. The wildlife refuge complex in the Klamath River Basin is part of a migratory bird wetland habitat system that spans the western seaboard. Wilson (2010) refers to wetlands along the Pacific Coast as “links in a chain” leading the birds from wintering grounds to summer breeding habitats, and back again. It is estimated that three quarters of the birds traveling through this chain make a stop in the Klamath Basin, and roughly half of those can be found at Tule Lake (Foster 2008 ;Wilson 2010 )…
The Arrival There have been many reports on an island, often visited by hunters, regarding cannibalism. In this news article, these concerns, as well as secrets, will be addressed. I will share my adventure to the Ship-Trap Island. I had originally planned to travel to Rio on September 5th through September 12th. A perspicacious and experienced hunter named Rainsford accompanied me.…
Virginia’s coast is seen as the highlight of the state. The only gem that should be protected at all cost. So we pour millions of dollars to beautify the beach and bring in more people. We do this because in the end more people means more money. This mentality has made us blind to the fact that we have other wetlands in far greater danger than the beach.…
I moved myself out to South Bass Island in the middle of Lake Erie. For six months out of the year South Bass Island is a major tourist spot. I hadn’t intended to work there, I had gone to take time to myself to be able to write, but was quickly recruited. Those bartending skills I mentioned before? Yeah...…
While travelling across New York Harbor herring gulls and great black-backed gulls were seen. Three cormorants were observed sitting on wooden pylons near the dock. Once in Central Park, I saw numerous pin oak trees, a few white oak, chestnut oak and many cherry trees displaying their white-pink blossoms. Sensitive fern, arrow wood, common milkweed, winged sumac, garlic mustard, and honeysuckle were all observed. Common bird species such as the pigeon, European starling and house sparrows were seen most often.…
Plum Island Trip First of all, I decided to do this project because it included a trip to an island. My first thought was warm weather, the sun, the beach, and the ocean, but unfortunately we did this trip in a cold, dark and windy day. We spent most of our day at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, which is located along the northeast coast of Massachusetts. This refuge has it's history, it was established in 1941 for several reasons, which they are: to provide feeding, resting, and nesting habitat for migratory birds. The Parker River is huge because there is a lot to see.…
After anxiously waiting about fifteen minutes, our waiter arrived with three beautiful plates. He set down my plate exposing my eyes to three buttermilk pancakes perfectly placed together with a layer of fresh strawberries and a tower of fluffy whipped cream in the middle, sprinkled on top were small bits of nuts and powdered sugar. All I needed now was syrup but what syrup would I choose if there all sounded so good; From Original to Guava to Coconut to Honey Macadamia Nut to Honey Christmas Berry or Honey Rainbow Blossom. My older sister, a cousin, and I had decided we would be taking a summer trip to Honolulu, Hawaii.…
