Personal Narrative: My Writing Process

Improved Essays
My writing process has changed since I entered college. I now have theses certain steps I have to do to get my mind ready to write. Before I used to just write whatever came to my mind and hopefully it made sense. Now I take my time and think about what I am writing. I would never have people read my essay and give me feedback I would just turn it in how it is. It takes more time for me to complete my essays then it did before. Before I start writing, I read the essay prompt multiple times and brain storm what I am going to write about. If I can’t think of anything I ask someone else to read the prompt. I ask them to tell me one of their ideas and then I create my own ideas. Once I get my ideas and know what I am going to write about, I have to find a marathon of a show to watch. I used to think I use the shows for the sound; but the dialogue from the shows helps me from some of my sentences. This process would never happen in high school; I would write my essays in school so I don’t have to do anything when I go home. I wouldn’t ask anybody to read the prompt and give me one of their ideas if I was stuck. I’d hope that I answer in my writing when I turn it in. …show more content…

The supports of the essay ease my way into how to start the essay. I did not realizes I had this problem with starting my essays until I got into college. Whenever I had to start my essays I wouldn’t even think about how to start it. Whatever came to mind would be how I start the

My own ideas have to room to grow and creatively wonder without being bogged down by the idea of a prompt. When my thoughts are free flowing I find I am thinking much more about what I am saying and what I want to say rather than what should be said. When I first started the rhetoric, inquiry and critical writing course I was unaware of the specific flaws in my writing assignments. During this course not only did I figure out my own style of writing, but I also learned about other writing styles and how I could incorporate them into my own writing. The constructive criticism given by my peers and professor improved my way of writing. The hardest obstacle I had to face while writing was staying on topic. After reviewing my ideas and deciding exactly what the best approach would be to address the given prompt, I write a rough draft, then I start typing my final copy. As I am typing my final draft I revise sentences, correct spelling and grammar, and occasionally add or take away a sentence. Once my essay is completely written, I use the spelling and grammar check and fix mistakes that it may find. I then print my essay out and let a couple people read it and fix any mistakes they find. I ask them for suggestions on how to combine sentences and have a better variety of sentences.…
