Personal Narrative: Roller Coasters

Improved Essays
Roller coasters are one of the most terrifying things known to man. The steep hills, the extreme speeds, or even the sudden stops and the unexpected take offs. For an odd reason no one knows, we enjoy them with an passion. Six flags, one of the most famous amusement parks in America, and that’s where me and my dad decided to go to for my eleventh birthday.

It was at hot and very sunny July evening, temperatures almost reaching up 100 degrees. Screams, Laughing, and god awful smells from all the different bodies roaming around the park. But none of the phased me, because all I could worry about is how much fun I was going to have. Nothing meant more to me then getting to spend the day with my dad at one of my most favorite places in the world.

In just a few seconds they would be off, gone to travel over the track in a bright blur. The screams enclosed the car with the force of adrenaline as it appeared and disappeared in a flash. I heard the happy and terrified screams of the people on the coaster and the booming voice of the ones controlling it while strolling around Paradise Pier in Disneyland with my family. At this point, I hadn't been on the roller coaster yet. I preferred to keep myself on the ground and not on the coaster going up side down into crazy drops.…

The roller coaster completed its loop and started the next loop a year later. I found this spot on my arm that I was embarrassed by, so I went to the dermatologist to remove it. I later found out that It had precancerous cells that spread to the lymph nodes in my armpit. I had to have surgery to remove the rest of the spot and they had to remove all of the lymph nodes in my armpit. After that I was self conscious, because I had a huge scar on my arm.…

I thought I was going to die. As I sat down on the red, metal roller coaster I was petrified with fear and filled with dread as I thought of what lay ahead of me. I put my sweaty hands in the air as the workers buckled me in and my brother shook his head at my apprehension. My mind was racing a mile a minute as I vaguely heard them explain the rules of the ride. I was jolted out of my frantic thoughts as the ride started.…

The line of people stretched out as far as I could see, all dripping sweat in the sweltering Georgia heat. I was unsuccessfully trying to find a patch of shade and simantamously doubting my rather reckless decision to go on one of the most scary roller coasters in the whole amusement park. As if on a cue, a chorus of screams could be heard coming from above, although whether they were from joy or pure terror I couldn't tell. Either way, the exit gate suddenly looked very appealing. I leaned lazily against the red, metal railing and looked on as another round of daredevils took the chilling 100' ft. plunge.…

If you ever get scared or nervous when it comes to roller coasters, me too. The roller coasters height and turns trigger the excitement of many. When I rode my first roller coaster, at Disneyland, my father told me, before going on, that it may look high and scary, but if you keep your head back and hold on you will have an exciting experience. Later on, I learned that keeping your head back and holding on causes less back and neck pain. The impact on the neck when the roller coaster has stopped has caused injuries.…

So, with seven extremely energized young girls, a minivan and a-less-than-excited chaperon, we headed on our journey. After a loud car ride that seemed to last forever, we had finally arrived. We proceeded to buy our tickets, and quickly set off to ride every coaster we could fit into six hours. We started off well, making good time and hitting all of the mediocre rides that the park had.…
