Personal Narrative-Step Dad

College essay #1

My environment growing up was for the most part pretty positive. Growing up in a small town in Texas (Weslaco) was a bit tough but my mom and step dad helped me keep my head up high. They’re the most positive people you’ll ever meet and since day one they always believed in me.
My parents weren’t the wealthiest of people but they had a strong and positive mindset.
My mom sacrificed herself just to be able to keep me healthy as a baby. My mom would work day and night cleaning houses or babysitting for about 3 years. She soon met my step dad at a party and he’s kept us financially stable to this day. My step dad is a hardworking and caring individual, and he’s taught me so many life lessons that have helped me along the way.

When my mom settled down with my stepdad we moved into a trailer in a pretty quiet neighborhood. Everyone usually kept to themselves and kids would play football/Basketball for hours during the summer.
Throughout the years I’ve seen old friends go down the wrong path and one day it suddenly hit me. I realized that the only reason I haven’t gone down the wrong path myself was cause of how my parents raised me. They taught me at a young age to keep to myself and always work on my own personal goals. They also taught me to be a hard worker and always try to excel in anything I do. They helped me mature at a very fast rate, and it was cause of them that I learned how to manage my time and money wisely. I may be the only child but I know for sure

that I’m not spoiled. I respect my parents, and I look up to them. I aspire to do big things in life and make them proud. Any accomplishments I’ll have in the future will be thanks to my parents and how they raised me.
In conclusion, I had a rough start but quickly took advantage of all the wonderful people I grew up with and used their wisdom to help me mature and grow as a person. I love who I

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is the kind of universal story that every single person can relate to in certain ways. You can either relate to the struggles of having an alcoholic parents, or draw similarities to parents who are absent from day to day life for one reason or another. You may even be able to relate to the way that Jeanette was bullied just because she looked and lived different than others. In her story, Jeannette not only shows the hardships that she had growing up with an alcoholic father and an off-the-line mother, but she shows how her and her sibling all dealt with this upbringing, and how all of them ended up differently because of the way they were raised. Moving to the U.S was one of the many life changing experiences I have ever encountered. Some say that learning a completely different culture especially the language may be difficult, well, they were right! Coming to America did not only come with struggles, changes, and lessons, but it also brought blessings. I think that if you turn a situation around, for the better, you somehow become more optimistic about the situation itself. Talking about these attributes that came into my life will not only explain entirely where I come from, but really how each helped me become the person that I’m today.…

The environment in which I was raised had a lot of impact on the person I have become today. With my dad being in the military, I had the opportunity to travel the world; living in a different country and being around different cultures influenced my personality and mentality positively. Aside from the cultural aspect of it, being away from most of my family influenced the person that I became for the reason that it made me extremely independent. I noticed all my parents sacrificed living far from our family, learning a new language, living and accommodating to new and different places from what they were used to, and even risking their life being in the military just so that my brother and I can have a better future. Consequently, all their…

    A. Autobiographical Statement My mother was the first and only person in her family to graduate from college, which has always been an inspiration to me. She was an abused wife on food stamps, raising two children on her own while my father was incarcerated. I will always remember when she told me that life was like a lotus flower; we may start by growing in the mud but each day we can choose to bloom above the water into a beautiful flower. It was then that I understood my childhood was not my choice, but how I choose to live the rest of my life was. My mother never wavered in her faith that if I wanted to do something in my life the only thing that could hold me back was myself.…

Some attend because they are passionate about something that interests them and have the desire to extend their education. On the other hand, some students also attend college because they are told to by their parents or relatives. This is a much extended topic due to many different opinions. I do not necessarily believe students who do not want to attend college should attend.…
