Personal Narrative: The Best Teenage Mother

Decent Essays
Ever since I was a little girl I couldn't wait to become a mom! I always volunteered to make bottles, change diapers, play peek a boo, and rock my little cousins to sleep. So why was everybody so shocked that I became pregnant? Oh yea, I was only 14 years old!! I wasn't even out of middle school yet and there I found myself picking out names for a baby. My mom wasn't very happy, she tried to get me to stop seeing Santiago aka Taco. She even threatened to put him away in jail, "Because a 21 year old man has no business with a 14 year old girl." is something she would always say. I didn't listen to her. I skipped school, and I even tried to run away for a few days just to be with him. We partied all the time I was with him. Mostly smoked weed, there …show more content…
I didn't want any kind of complications during my pregnancy or labor. My goal was to be the best teen mom, I took parenting classes that my high school offered, I ate right, I got my exercise during school walking around the campus to all my classes, I never missed a doctors visit. I was so intrigued about the little life growing inside of me. It was the best blessing I could ever receive. December 31, 1998 at 3o'clock in the morning I went into labor, I was 15 years old. It wasn't all that bad, at least not like I expected it to be, 10 hours later I had a beautiful, healthy son, we named him Isaiah Solomon Valde. I was so in love with him, I didn't want him to leave my sight! I wanted to capture everything and hold it in my mind and heart forever. The first couple of months were hectic! Taco wasn't coming home at night, I was running out of formula and diapers for our son. When he did decide to come home he was always broke. My mom had had enough and she kicked him out. I was furious! Where was he supposed to go? I begged my mom to please let him stay, she wouldn't side with me. I decided to leave with him and our son. Isaiah wasn't even six weeks and we were already

Coming from a Mexican family and being a female is a bit difficult. It is difficult when you have family that is waiting for you to “grow up” to become a mother. Some family members belief this is still a norm for a female to get married, have children, and stay home to take care of the family. When I first learned of this assignment my first thought was to interview my mom. She is the one person in my life I am closest to. Since we are only twenty three years apart, I thought it would be best to focus on her life up to the point where she decided to have kids. Though I knew most of what she told me it was still nice to just sit and talk about her life experiences. My mother was born to older parents and was the youngest of three children.…

My mother and I did not share a typical mother/daughter relationship. There was a time when we would not even speak and years would pass before I would even see her again. However, I would always see her when I looked into the mirror, since I looked just like her. I would hear her laugh because our laughs were identical, and small details we shared would remind me of the relationship I was missing, the relationship I felt everyone took advantage of. During my senior year all hope of a possible reconciliation would be lost.…

Being pregnant brought me firsthand into what it feels like to have a child, especially when it happens at a time before you planned. I finally could understand how my cousin must have felt, feeling too young and not ready to be a mother. I was 21 when I became pregnant whereas she was 14, and though that isn’t extremely young, I hadn’t intended to start planning a family until I was almost 30. I still had plenty of bridges to cross with my schooling and career, and just other goals in life that I wanted first. I wanted to travel, and enjoy my twenties, being young.…

I started telling myself, How am I going to raise a kid, I am only 17 and still in school? I knew right then I had to look for everything my baby would need, get a job, and help with assistance. I soon realized I would not be a high school dropout just to take care of my baby; I would go through school and work if I had to and my mom would help. With the power of all that, I finally pulled through. Teen Moms have a lot to deal with when they become pregnant at a young age, including social effects, physical effects, and emotional effects.…
