Baby To Beast Freshman year is already stressful as it is. You are the new kids on the block, you dont know the ins and outs of the high school, and you dont want to make a fool of yourself in front of all these upperclassmen. Not only did I have to overcome that, I got diagnosed with an Atrial Septal Defect, or ASD for short. In other words, I had a hole in my heart between the two chambers of my heart. I was always a smaller kid in middle school.…
The Hunted I didn’t know who I was. I woke up next to a bunch of muddy kids. They all smelled like they haven't showered in weeks. There was two twins, a chubby kid, and probably the skinniest kid I’ve ever seen. Then I realized I smelled just like them.…
The Hunt I am all warm in my camo attire with my bow hugging the tree behind me. I watch as sky comes to life and leaves crunch as the dew falls on them. My father sitting at my right side, dozing, his head bobbing every once in awhile. I hear the faint noise of something crunching and look above me to see a squirrel perched on a small branch. I smile and nod my head letting out a faint chuckle.…
It was a cold November morning with a slight breeze blowing. The limb where Jeff was sitting was like sitting on a cloud. All was warm but his hands laying on the cold metal that was his rifle. Hunting in West Virginia was better and more dangerous than anything else.…
As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…
I hate Christmas because nothing is phenomenal. I am not being facetious. I assume that Santa was busy and remiss when he forgot to give me a Christmas gift. Every time I saw other children play with their new toys by looking through the translucent window, I consternated about Christmas, and felt disconsolate. It is a paradox that a rich country should be so many poor people.…
There was one day I was at my friends house in the middle on December. My friend Jared’s family has a house in Big Bear. The date was December 20, 2015. He asks me ,” Hey nick , you wanna come with us to Big Bear for the snow and just chill up there.” Therefore I ask my mom If I could go.…
Anytime Bear Bear was in my hand, my thumb was in my mouth. No matter where I was or what I was doing and I had no idea why but anytime I had her I felt the urge to do it.…
I interviewed a mom who I will call KG. KG has a daughter that is approximately 16 months old who I will refer to as RG. RG has not always attended a daycare center. The first six months after she was born KG was a stay at home mom to her daughter. KG was going to school for education during that time and when she finished and decided to look for a job is when RG began going to this daycare center where KG is a teacher.…
My experience with the after school book club at Madison Elementary today was an exciting yet my patience was tested by a seven year old little boy named Jose. Today I was excited to see if my group would enjoy the book, “Where the Wild Things Are,” due to the fact everyone agreed they enjoy reading adventure books. Consequently, one of my group members, Jose, had already read the book and watched the movie and let the whole group know it was “boring.” Already bored he instantly lost interest in the book and the group and was making it known by distracting the other group members around him. Usually his partner in crime, Gilbert, agrees with him and goes along with him but this time was different and he ignored his friend because he was actually…
“If a woman cannot stay home with her children, then maybe she just should not have them!” Natosha Keller, my mother, is a stay at home mom who believes if a woman were to have children, her number one priority should be to take care of her children and not have to worry about anything else. On the other hand there are other mothers who do not have a choice to being a stay at home mom, and they have to work to support their family. Making the decision to stay with your children or join the workforce can be a difficult process. For a lot of parents it is damaging for them to be away from their children for more than a few hours a day, and that is a big reason why we have stay at home moms.…
I woke up drenched in sweat sitting on an unfamiliar forest floor. Rubbing my head trying to remember how I got there and why I was there. To no avail I took to my feet and dusted of my now ruined clothes. Then suddenly, I heard a monstrous roar off in the distance. Looking around bewildered, I sprinted in the direction opposite the devastating roar.…
She sacrifices herself to temptation, but in such a powerful and mature way that shows she is ready to grow up. With the symbol of the riding hood, wolves represent another form of femininity. When she sees the wolves, “Ten wolves; twenty wolves – so many wolves she could not count them, howling in concert as if demented or deranged” (Carter, 117), she could easily run or succumb to fear as her fairytale counterparts had done before her; however, she sympathizes with the wolves, takes a step above their instinctual nature and uses her own power to realize that they are hurt, desperate animals. This pack also represents the men that try to seduce young women into their power play, taking away their defenses with fear tactics and domination. The girl disputes this by seeing…
As I scrutinize the azure abyss and its infinite cotton balls, I respire gradually and contemplate my existence and my purpose. I am surrounded by colossal, emerald trees and feel the invigorating breeze down my back. Perhaps, I am not an F. Scott Fitzgerald, when it comes to describing and recounting the scenery around me. However, I am anything but ordinary, I am a seed! I live with an everlasting hope and desire to sprout and impact the world.…
We walked through the very muddy and puddled walkway that went up the side of the mound of dirt until we reached a corner that leads to a great expanse of green and yellow grassland. Around the corner though was this four or five-foot tall doe. She was staring off into the distance presumably dazzled by the sun in the sky with all the food to eat, and then we walk and discombobulate her entirely, running away in a great stamper. We wanted to get a photo but we were just too close for its comfort. As we continued along the trail, my younger sister decided to embark on a journey of her own.…
