Personal Statement: A Career In Early Childhood Education

Improved Essays
I have always know that I had a passion to work with young children. When I was younger, I originally thought I wanted to be a pediatrician, but this passion eventually evolved into me wanting to be a teacher. My first grade teacher was the first person that has inspired me to become a teacher. She was kind and caring, but she was strict. She made me love to learn and help my classmates. My desire to help others has been my inspiration to want to work with young children. My favorite thing about working with children is watching them discover and learn new things while I am learning with them. From student teaching, I hope to learn to be the best teacher I can be. I want to continue to learn methods to effectively differentiate instruction

I grew up in an upper-middle class, white, Catholic family, in the middle of suburban Cary, North Carolina. Culture was a term introduced in school with pictures of exotic places and bright wardrobes; history lived inside textbooks with stories of war and migration. My fourth grade family history project contained one piece of information: my great-grandmother sailed to the States from Italy in 1904. The little history and culture introduced by my family showed me who I do not want to become. While the teachings of Christianity shaped me into a compassionate, open-hearted person, I struggle to accept the dogma that followed it.…

Joe Vitale once said, “A goal should scare you a little, and excite you a lot.” As a High School senior, I find this statement extremely accurate because planning my educational goals frighten me, but also excite me. I remember, as a child, I would come home everyday from school, and go straight to my room, where I would pretend to be a teacher. For Christmas, I would always ask for school supplies, and ironically still do. Needless to say, I have never second guessed my career path.…

Going through the becoming an elementary teacher course has really opened my eyes to maximizing my impact on student learning and to learn and evolve as a community. Most importantly to begin to create a bigger vision for becoming a teacher within the Colorado district and outline the knowledge and skills required to be an amazing teacher and to provide growth for all my students. I want to become a teacher to be able to make a positive difference on the future…

For some reason I had such a difficult time figuring out what I wanted for a career. The hardest part about finishing high school was figuring out what career I wanted to pursue, a career I hoped to be doing and enjoying for the rest of my life. Recently though, I have learned that what I end up majoring in college will not be my only career that I will pursue in my life and that I will probably change careers multiple times. As I am now attending these freshman college classes and taking all the required prerequisites, I can feel the pressure when someone asks me, “what is your major?”, “what are you planning on doing in the future?”. I want to believe now that I want to be a nurse, but that might not actually be the case.…
