My Personal Goal Statement Every day I wake up, I ask myself how I can make a difference. This question has helped shape my personal values and principles and directed my path into the nursing field. Growing up in West Africa and witnessing firsthand the sufferings and impoverishment of the people around me, I developed a sense of compassion and willingness to make a difference and help alleviate their sufferings and put a smile on their faces. Healthcare delivery and poverty are two major underlying factors in the challenges faced in Africa, thus, when I got an opportunity to come into the United States, it was my golden ticket to finally give back to the community and make a difference. This led me into the nursing field; I started out as a Certified Nurse Assistant.…

In high school, I prided myself on my grades. I was an honors student who got straight A’s, was very involved, and held several leadership positions. Over time, I realized that regardless of how many accolades I received, those successes would be short-lived and would only benefit me. Contrastingly, how I treated other people had the potential to make a long-lasting impact. Once I realized this, I began to place a higher value on my role as a friend to go to for advice, rather than just being the person to ask about the homework.…

Personal statements are well known to many young adults in high school and older. Mainly because a personal statement is an important aspect of your high school career in order to be accepted to the college you would like to attend in the future. When I became a high school senior, I didn’t know what to do, what to write, or where to even begin with the two essays. I was lost and confused. I strongly believe that learning how to write and create my personal statement is extremely significant to me because it taught me how to be very detailed, yet short and straight to the point, speak with emotions without being so overly dramatic, and lastly, it taught me how to write a well structured essay.…

Due to my strong desire to expand my knowledge in science and mathematics, I requested to take courses earlier, and was able to start freshman year by taking Chemistry and Algebra 2 instead of conventional ninth grade courses.…

Growing up in my family, graduating high school was not something you questioned but was more of something that was going to happen without any hesitation. Although this was the standard in my family, this is not how it was for many of my friend's families, as graduating high school was a much bigger deal to them. However, when it came to me, graduating high school became not only an accomplishment, but it became an obstacle as well. Stepping through the doors of North High School for the first time was a joy in and of itself, it was not until later my freshman year that I realized this may not be the "best time of my life" like they say.…

If you ask me, my achievements are very small academically. They were easy to achieve, and never truly meant much. I have always gotten in or above high eighties in all classes, except English where I always seemed to fall short.
