There is a growing issue worldwide that has not been addressed nearly as much as it should. It claims lives, homes and space from not just humankind, but also from animals, and from the very earth we live on. I am talking, of course, about overpopulation. According to the Population Reference Bureau, "...[I]n 2005, the world had 6.5 billion people. By 2050, this number could rise to more than 9 billion (http://www.prb.org/Publications/Lesson-Plans/HumanPopulation/PopulationGrowth.aspx) Overpopulation is one of the most overlooked issues in society, and it is putting stress on the world's resources. With overcrowding being a fast growing issue, abortion should be a legal option for women who become pregnant. This option not only gives women control of their own bodies, but given time, it will help stabilize the population, and save resources. While overpopulation is an issue, there are many who dont agree with drastic messure such as abortion, and with good reason. The debate on when a life begins has yet to be concluded, and the possiblity of aborting the next top engineer is a risk many are not willing to make. For example, a child on the playground has multiple toys in his sandbox, while there is another child who has very little and wants more. To the child who has little it makes sense in his mind for the child with plenty to share but in many cases that is not how it works.
