When scrolling through Facebook during vacation, I stumbled upon this article claiming that unprecedented steps have been taken to improve cancer therapies. For years, the topic of cancer and the treatments for the disease has always interested me and the astonishing exclamation that “more than half of terminally ill blood cancer patients experienced complete remission in early clinical trials” in the article’s subtitle just seemed to heighten my interest even further. However, this not the only reason that drew me to choose this article. Many members of my family have fought and are fighting cancer and although for some it is too late, any promising research excites me. Being the -second leading cause of death in the United States, there is no surprise that such extensive research endeavors are being dedicated to focusing on cancer. I often hear many child, when asked about what they want to do with their future careers, say they want to find a cure for cancer or discover some other major medical advancement. This inspiration in the current and next generation and incredible advancements of treatments in modern research make for promising prospects that we may be closer to a cure than ever before.
