We should be discussing four-day school weeks more often. We need to bring up the fact that school would be better with them. People need to know the opportunities that are waiting to be opened. It is already proven statistically that school’s academic success rate jumps up when making the switch. You also have a healthier community. We should not sacrifice the perks of switching because we are too scared to move from our roots.
Making it legal is not a problem anymore. Half of the U.S. has made the choice to grant schools permission to shorten the school week. Meaning it’s left up to the school and its community to make the right choice. The states that made it legal are already seeing change and they’re looking for more.

According to a study published by MIT Journals, schools can expect a 10-12% increase in student’s test scores after shortening the week. This is great news because one of the biggest arguments was the exact opposite of this. No one had done any research when they thought this, but now that we have, we’ve seen way different results. Since school days will be made longer, there seems to be no problem here.
Four-day weeks would be much healthier. Kids would receive an extra day of rest/study time and would show up more attentively come Monday. Chattooga County showed that in their school district, teachers were at school 28% more than they were on a five-day week. K-8th-grade students were present 32% more than they previously had been. Lastly, they showed an immense decrease in discipline write-ups for grades 9-12. They showed a 73% decrease overall.
Students can not be missing out on these wonderful results. At this point in time, I’m not quite sure what exactly we are waiting for. People need to wake up and realize that we can’t stay the same if the same isn’t working.
