The first day of high school chemistry was the beginning of shaping my love for pharmacy. I instantly fell in love with chemistry from this day. Already having a strong advanced mathematics background from middle school taking algebra, this tied into a lot of the chemistry components that I excelled in. Unsure of what to do after high school and to support myself financially, I joined the Army and served in the National Guard for six years. Becoming a single mother wasn't exactly in the plans either, but my son is my joy and my motivation every day. I have been in this career field working as a pharmacy technician since 2009 and have acquired proficiency in the pharmacy field. I went through many other degree programs before choosing pharmacy, honestly. I've been in the pharmacy field for some time and worked side by side with some of the most exceptional pharmacists, witnessing the close personal encounters with the patients. I have the experience in the field that can help with my understanding in pharmacy. With more than six years in retail pharmacy and diabetic mail order pharmacy, I feel I have some valuable knowledge and hard-working skills that will help me thrive during the Pharmacy program and on into my career as a pharmacist. Working so long in this environment there are many things that are acquired and even applied to my education subjects, example being the different types of blood pressure medications and how they work.
