Beliefs influence the role of educators. Beliefs influence what values they emphasize, how they organize their classrooms, what content they stress, what teaching methods they use, and how they develop a personal relationship with their students. All of these beliefs are what shapes one into a professional educator. In obtaining the teaching philosophy of progressivism, I will be culturally literate so that I can show respect and acceptance of diverse students within my classroom.

Because of my background, I will demonstrate equality and respect for all of my students. My students will be aware that I am fair and do not favor those who share the same beliefs and values as me. Every single students will feel loved, welcomed, and respected while in my classroom. Experiences in my life have shaped me to obtain the educational philosophy of progressivism. Being involved with competitive gymnastics and cheerleading, I understand the importance of learning by doing. For example, to learn a gymnastics or dance routine, I would have to repeat it over and over. The only way I could learn a new trick was to try. This same concept ties into student learning. Students should have the chance to participate in hands on activities in order to gain additional experiences. I want to be a teacher that encourages my students to use critical thinking in order to gain unique learning experiences. Growing up in school, I quickly realized that learning is difficult when students are not interested or curious about the topic being taught. Therefore, as a teacher, I will create lessons that spark student curiosity, and use present experiences. I believe in collaboration and also seeing viewpoints of others. Experiences such as substituting and babysitting have shown me that not all students learn the same. Therefore, as a progressivist teacher, I will use different methods of instruction to best benefit each
