Plastic Bottless In The United States

Decent Essays
The United States is rank number one in trash-producing country in the world, that has created 1,600 pounds per capita on an average. Every person in the United States generates more than four pounds of solid waste a day. Plastic bottles are used 2.5 million times every hour in the United States and more than half are thrown away. In 2008 South Carolina had 13 million of solid wastes and just under 5 million was recycled. The United States needs to start recycling more, so we can have a more successful country because every plastic bottle throw away we have spent money making more for the people who are just going to throw it away again. Throwing away bottles is like throwing away money, it might not feel like it, but you are. (Chase)

Johnson tries to make a claim, but fails to make it impactful by implementing too many details that do not sway the audience to either side. Her reasoning behind the many facts she provides show why or why not bottles should still be bought. Although the points addressed are informative, they do not influence the reader. Johnson’s credibility is lost from the use of biased sources for research, and trust for her is also lost as she doesn’t clearly state to which side of the issue she is on. Emotionally, however, she does a great job by making the audience feel bad for consuming water bottles; but also leaves the audience grateful for the life-saving water bottles.…

Those empty soda cans and food cans are natural resources, and we all have to recycle them. I usually get annoyed by all those empty water bottles in the normal trash, which is not designed for recycling. While the recycling one is just about one minute far from the trash! Just before thanksgiving break, me and my friend were heading out of our chemistry lecture, and I saw about five water bottles that were on the top of the trash in the lecture hall. All students were just walking by it, and some of them even threw their empty bottles there.…

She continues using logical reasons in her arguments that say that there are essential minerals in tap water that should encourage people to drink tap water. Proceeding to use logic, she makes clear that tap water also save money. This would encourage any college student to choose tap water over bottled water, since college students need all the extra money wherever they can find it. Moreover, following the same format of the rest of her article, Johnson then meets the preceding claims with a final claim that bottled water is essentially convenient to people. With this all being said, a point about reusable water bottles is finally brought to the table and is said that using reusable water bottles is the ultimate…

To produce these plastic water bottles “we use 17 million barrels of oil each year” (Schriever). This substantial amount of valuable product could alternatively be used to “keep a million cars fueled for a whole year” (Schriever). This 22 to 24 dollars does not even account for the number of soda bottles, juice jugs, and other beverages consumed in a year. Furthermore, most all plastic bottles are not recycled, yet they are thrown away. “According to Brita: Americans throw away 35 billion plastic bottles a year,” (Hasselberger). Since we use 50 billion water bottles a year, that means only that 15 billion plastic bottles are recycled each year (Leithman).…
