And if they are in the water that we drink, it means they are in us. When the plastic is eaten by the fish, it absorbs the plastic toxins that are then being passed up through the food chain, to us. The study that were conducted in 2010 shows that 93% of American have a plastic toxins in their body. Some plastic toxins are directly linked to the cancer, others can lead to the birth defects, immune system problems, and childhood development issues, and problems with the hormonal functions. (Weule) Rolf Halden wanted to make a research on how it exactly effect humans, but concluded that it is almost impossible, since plastic is that widespread that there are almost no unexposed subjects to it.
