One ominous morning of 2008 I woke up to a saddened atmosphere. I look around at my parents, who are hardcore republicans, and asked them what was wrong. They said that they had lost the election. My eight year old self replied that they never won because they never ran, and of course they explained that their party lost the run for presidency. For the years to come every time I would look at the news and see a little “R” next to a person name I would know that they are the “good guys”. When I grew older I quickly realized that this ideology was far from the truth. I began my journey for the truth, I questioned my parents political views, and watched CNN. Democrats will say he did the best he could. Should we look at the unemployment rates? The national debt? The GDP? If Lincoln were elected president he would have the same statistics if he was elected right after a recession. Republicans will say Obama did nothing while at the same time for 8 years strait they promised to never vote for anything. Ok, gay marriage is a law and a right, but was it Obama, or the supreme court? Ok, he didn't put many boots on the ground in Syria, but are american or syrian lives more important, tough question. No matter how you look at it, you can twist it to your personal preference. W. Bush did so much damage to the U.S. especially in foreign affairs and Obama pick up his slack. In just a couple months Trump has destroyed all of those relationships that Obama took 8 years to build. Look at Great Britain for example, they were a world super power for centuries and for the most part disregarded foreign relationships. Now the are no longer in that position. The U.S. needs to learn from that. This is the sad state of U.S. politics, forever in a political deadlock, and republicans are happy with that as long as Democrats cant do anything. From Obama’s presidency I have learned to think for myself, and that there will always be an opposing opinion, and lastly even though Obama’s presidency was a paramount change, and will go down in the history books as such, nothing will
