We are taught history in the hopes that we will be able to avoid the mistakes of past, however, it seems that history continues to repeat itself. However, it seems that history often finds a way to repeat itself, even during the present day. We have come a long way from the time of Pope Urban II but the problems we face are still similar in essence. Although the Crusades were fought over eight hundred years ago some of the same problems still exist today. Both today and during the Middle Ages children have been convince to fight battles, a leading power has gone to another leading power for help, and those we trust are willing to turn against us in order to make a quick fortune.

This should sound familiar because earlier this year The New York Times reported that, “The Obama administration is turning to the United Nations to help screen migrants fleeing violence in Central America, senior administration officials said Tuesday, and to help set up processing centers in several Latin American countries in the hopes of stemming a flood of families crossing the southern border illegally.” The United States, like the Eastern Church did in the Middle Ages, is asking for help from a group the country is closely connected to, the United Nations. The United Nations’ goal is to “transform our world.” Although, the church of the Middle Ages focused on the religious aspect of the world, the church also recognized that the world needed to be improved.
