Makai has been in this atypical classroom for quite some time now. I remember when I used to observe in the typical pre-k classroom right next door and Ms. Parker would bring Makai in to observe him interacting with the other students. He never stayed long because he was very hyperactive and distracted the class. Today, when I seen him, I noticed a big difference. He wasn’t as hyper, in fact he was quiet for most of the visit. While in centers, Makai spent most of the time by himself and he looked to enjoy it that way. He is one that doesn’t speak much, but he uses noises and grunting sounds to get his point across to the teachers. Although he wasn’t speaking real words, the teachers understood him very well.

At one point, he was trying to play with the manipulatives and the tablet at the same time. After a while, he gave up on both of them and turned his attention to something else. For the rest center time, he played on the carpet by himself with a musical caterpillar that lit up with the press of a button. He seemed to enjoy himself so much with that caterpillar. Every once in awhile, he would jump up and move around, but he would go right back to that
