I know for me that prison gangs to do not cross my mind much when discussion corrections, but it is there. Gabbidon and Greene (2013) stated that the earliest prison gang was the "Gypsy Jokers" (p. 259). They were incarcerated in the Washington state prison. There have been some research done on prison gangs and they have found that the population of prison gang members have range from 15,000 to between 50,000 to 100,000 (Gabbidon & Greene, 2013). That is a large number of inmates that is in prison gangs. These gangs in prison is also formed by same race or ethnic background. There are not only prison gangs in prison, but street gangs has also become present. Because of the increase of gangs in prison correctional officers has had to use different strategies to control institutions. I wonder if research shows that there may needs to be more training with correctional officers to help with these issues such as prison gangs and controlling them. One method that the authors brought up that was used was to separate offenders by race, but I agree with the Supreme court that, it is unconstitutional. The reason why is because not everybody is in an gang and it could cause other issues. There is not much research on the measure officers take to control gangs. I am curious to see more research done on
