Pro Dying with Dignity
In the United States, we are given the ability to choose our life experiences. However, in most states we are not allowed the choice to die peacefully or painfully. In the United States, there are people who face an unbearable suffering prior to their own death. These people are forced to suffer from mental and physical pain, knowing that there is no cure to save them. Rather than dying, these people are prolonged their own death, only to suffer longer. It should come to no surprise that some of these members choose death over life. Eventually there is a point when someone believes that they have had enough suffering. A person should have the right to their life, their choice, and their death. Those who qualify for physician-assisted

Death With Dignity The nation’s eyes opened when twenty nine-year-old Brittany Maynard publicly made the decision that she was going to end her life. When she learned that even with surgery her death was inevitable, she moved with her husband and mother to the first state that made the Death with Dignity Act legal, Oregon. Brittany Maynard did not want to die in vain: “She said, “I will rob cancer of the ability to take everything of me before it takes my life”” (Printz). The right to die with dignity is ethical in many cases similar to Brittany Maynard’s and should be available in The United States because people shouldn’t have to suffer severe illnesses, there should be an option available for Physician-Assisted death, which helps with peace of mind, and they should not face a penalty for going about the process.…

Insufficient palliative care can have a lot to do with whether or not someone wants to stay on this earth any longer. If the treatments being provided are not working or the people around these patients such as the nurses and doctors are not treating them right, then this would push them closer to PAD in hopes of ending their lives the way they want to. The biggest flaw in the healthcare system would be the price. “Yet many lower-income residents in Oregon might qualify for assisted-death drugs, but not qualify for basic treatments or even hospice care under medicaid. To say to someone, ‘we’ll pay for you to die, but not pay for you to live,’ it's cruel.”…

Physician-Assisted Suicide There is one thing that you can be certain of your entire life; you are going to die. We had no choice to be born, so should we have no choice when we die? Oftentimes we do not even know when we are going to die, in instances such as car accidents or murders. Sometimes we do know, and the death process can be long and drawn out, with pain, suffering, and mountains of medical bills.…

The word “death” holds so much meaning to every individual on this planet. It can strike fear in many, but for others it can be a release. A release from being trapped in a body that can only feel pain or that cannot feel at all. Many beg for death to never come knocking on their door, while others leave the door unlocked. Why should death be denied to those already dying, if their wish is to no longer suffer under the amount of pain they are under?…

Sometimes when life and suffering become unbearable, death offers a welcome escape. When it is a question between seeking expensive long term treatment or ending one’s suffering altogether, assisted suicide, Death with Dignity, gives someone a choice whether or not to end their life. Death with Dignity refers to a person’s legal right to end one’s life. This “solution” to pain and suffering is often frowned upon for various reasons in many religions and by specific individuals such as doctors, nurses, and family members. Despite these objections, death with dignity should be legal throughout the United States because it gives people a chance to decide what is best for themselves, it costs a lot less money than a long-term treatment, and it ends their suffering.…

No person should have to endure terminal suffering that is unremitting, unbearable, or prolonged. When the burdens of life outweigh the benefits because of uncontrollable pain, severe psychological suffering, loss of dignity, or loss of quality of life as judged by the patient, and when the circumstances are not remediable, the dying person should be able to ask for and receive help in assisted suicide (Marker, Smith 47-51). It is further argued that assisted suicide for incurably ill persons experiencing extreme suffering can be distinguished from euthanasia used for the purpose of genocide on the grounds that it is based on principles of dignity, honor, and respect and is chosen and enacted by the dying individuals, rather than being forced on them against their…

However, there are certain times in life when the pain we feel mentally, or physically, is so strong, that people can not take it anymore. There are those people who can get over these things pretty quickly, push that feeling away, or use medication to make it go away and go on with their day, but some people, aren’t able to push it away. Is it our right or freedom to decide the conditions of our own death as American citizens? Throughout the world, people have asked this question and even enacted laws based off of their viewpoints on the situation of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide(PAS). According to Derek Humphry, the founder of the Euthanasia Research and Guidance Organization, euthanasia is "Death by lethal injection by a doctor when requested by a patient." and physician-assisted suicide is a "Medical doctor helping a patient to die by prescribing a lethal overdose." Although the circumstances of being terminally ill and people wanting medical assistance to help them commit suicide has been around since medicine has, the idea and practice of euthanasia and PAS…

Matters of life and death are often extremely controversial and difficult for people to agree on. Such is the use of euthanasia, “the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma” which is illegal in a majority of the world. While to some it seems inhumane and unethical, withholding the ability to choose from someone who is suffering or incapable of living their life can cause misery or resorting to other (dangerous) methods of death. Patients who fall within euthanasia criteria should be able to take comfort in knowing the choice is theirs. If they decide for it, euthanasia needs to become available as soon as possible because current doctors, medical students and graduate students…

The advancement in medicine has changed the world. In some extreme cases many have wanted to end their life either from lethal injection or denied care, but is it legal? Does a person have the right to die if he or she chooses? Who can deny or who would deny someone death if they are in pain?…

Even when a person is in a coma or terminally ill, the natural law and the fifth commandment require that all ordinary means be used to preserve life. Unfortunately, as of late, it seems that the media and court case outcomes seem to be advocating the belief that humans possess the “right to die.” Certain treatments and the ways in which the wishes of the dying are legally carried out can cause many arguments over the morality of end-of-life issues. Five states allow physician assisted suicide, however it is illicit to end one’s own or another’s life and proportionate care must always be given, along with an understanding of redemptive suffering.…

“Dying is not a crime,” Jack Kevorkian, a pathologist once said, and quite frankly, it shouldn’t be. In a nation as the United States in which one can start a family and give birth to new lives in liberty, why is the freedom to end his or her own disallowed? To choose to give away something of one’s own is not a crime, to choose to give up their lives should also be put in the same class, they are not giving up their soul to the devil, but getting rid of the devil in the name of pain bugging them when conscious. Making the choice of dying shouldn’t be a crime looked at as a cowardly act, conversely, it should be recognized as a start of a peaceful exit.…

If a person is on the line of death in a long and slow way, they should have the right to end their suffrage and life in a comfortable way. This can be done by something known as mercy killing and sometimes known as euthanasia. Mercy killing is when a doctor directly ends with their patient’s life, this is done in order to put the patient out of its suffrage and relieve them from an incurable and terminal condition. It creates an enormous controversy if mercy killing should be allowed to any human being, it is thought to be unlawful and is concerned to be murder, but I say what human being with a painful and terminal condition would want to suffer until their natural death comes about.…

Although this topic is controversial, the patients should be allowed, in certain circumstances, to end their lives. There are circumstances where living would cause the patients more pain with no promises of recovery. And even then they may still die because of a relapse or they may even be in constant pain for the rest of their lives. Then there is the argument about what happens to the tissue samples as well as the body after death.…
