Professional Application Essay Examples

I feel that continuing professional development is a very important aspect when working in any helping field. Personal and professional growth not only aids individuals in understanding more of who they are, but also aids in understanding client differences and client needs. Previously, I worked as a Sexual Assault Coordinator at a nonprofit agency and my job required me to work with clients of all ages and diverse demographic backgrounds. To better understand my clients I went to many trainings covering topics regarding specific issues I may have to deal with when working with abuse victims. If I did not take the initiative to learn more about those I provide service to, I feel I would be doing them a disservice as a counselor. I need to know how to react to each situation individually and to react in the most appropriate professional manner. My undergraduate degree is in Social Welfare, so I feel by using what I have learned working in a social agency setting helps me as a School Counselor. I also implement my past experience towards my career as a School Counselor and I have attended many training sessions that have become available to me. I now have completed a master’s level course in Alternative Education, learned about internet safety, the financial aid process, college application process, testing coordination, self-harm, substance abuse and how it affects teenage brain development, safe crisis management, affective problem solving regarding student crisis situations, school safety,and many more. I hope that I will only continue to grow over my time as a School Counselor. I feel this is the only way to maintain a comprehensive program and to be worthy of using the title
