Finally, another reason animals are not abused is because of the strict guidelines set by each rodeo association. The rules of the Cheyenne Frontier Days ™ acknowledges that all animals receive proper care and treatment before, during, and after every rodeo performance. Horses and cattle are transported in specially designed trucks for their protection. Once on site, the animals are placed in large corrals, provided with fresh feed and water, and are inspected at least twice a day for any concerns.…
Not Horse Play Although the world of horses is a very elaborate one, most people do not know the real cost and responsibility of owning a horse. Most horse breeds are bred for specific reason whether it be for beauty or brains. There really is no animal quite like the horse given how many different variations exist. In my hometown, I live in a community that has a large drive for tourism due to the horse race track located about ten minutes from my house.…
Why – Are you one of those people who look around the pits and does what everyone does? Do you set your car up just like the guy next to you? Do you have the same springs in the car as the leader? Do you run the same stagger as everyone else? If this is you, I pose this questions “Why follow everyone else?”…
Every year, over 100,000 American horses are transported over U.S. borders to be slaughtered for human consumption (“Horse Slaughter”). Hearing the term “horse slaughter” is enough to send a chill up someone’s spine. Slaughtering horses is an inhumane way for them to die. Dozens of horses are forced into cattle trailers where they will travel thousands of miles across the border to the slaughterhouses. Most of them arrive malnourished, injured, or even dead.…
SHOULD THE FUNDING FOR U.S. FEDERAL INSPECTIONS ON HORSES FOR SLAUGHTER BE REESTABLISED? INTRODUCTION There are 9.2 million horses being used for sports, shows, and recreation in the United States (American Horse Council). While horses have always been seen as tool to complete ranch or farm work and a type of transportation, the more personal use of horses in recent years is their role as a companion animal. However, not everyone can afford these expensive pets and thousands are left unwanted each year.…
In the 21st century, animal fighting is one of the most controversial topics attracting great considerations of the public all around the world. From the general opinions, it is looked as an immortal kind of entertainment against the civilization of humanity ideology in modern life. The goal of this essay is analyzing reasons behind the opinions of criticizing blood sports, as well as giving my point of view for this heated debate. It should be first noted that this kind of sport is against humanity and the animal rights. The animals in battle, even though dead or survived, are still suffered from injuries and take a long time to recover physically.…
Horse Racing: Right or Wrong? Horse racing may be considered an older American pastime but it is still alive and well in today’s society. Thousands of people watch each year as horses run, full speed, down a dirt track hoping for the ultimate trophy; The Triple Crown. Horse racing is an entirely different world. Little kids aspire to be jockeys while parents aspire for the horse they bet on to win.…
Equine therapy comes in many different forms and because of this is an effective therapy for treating multiple physical and mental issues. It is often used as a therapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, special needs, eating disorders, behavioral issues, and life threatening illness. Equine therapy is effective to treat mental illness because the horses give the patients hope, happiness, and higher self esteem (Dixon). Even the environment helps relax the clients. Being in an open quiet field with a horse helps people forget the problems they face (Boatwright).…
Teaching Your Horse to Bow First thing’s first. Other than it being an impressive trick, what are the benefits to teaching your horse to do something like this? “The horse is a prey animal. His first instinct is to run from danger. Horses run first and then think later” (Lisa Rask).…
Introduction Animal extortion is an ongoing issue in relationship to animal welfare and rights. There seems to be some ethical areas that individuals feel need to be changed on how humans use animals for human personal benefits. The argument supporting animal extortion and maltreatment has been the same for generations, including this view on animals used for experiments, “These benefits to humans far outweigh the costs in suffering that relatively few animals have had to endure. Society has an obligation to maximize the opportunities to produce such beneficial consequences, even at the cost of inflicting some pain on animals” (Andre & Velasquez, 1988). When looking at public policy and a resolution, it becomes a question of overcoming this…
A soldier is barraged with emotions during a war, that he must avoid in order to survive. War has forced a soldier to become detached, as he must always stay neutral in order to get through the battle. As the soldier observes innocent creatures being destroyed and watches death occur, he must not let this affect him as he has to block it out. In All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque uses horses and butterflies to represent how war forces soldiers to conceal their emotions, which protects him from the brutal experiences of war.…
White Paper: Prohibit Animal Tethering Under Specific Circumstances It is often said that a dog is man’s best friend. Indeed, any variety of pet from dogs, to cats, to lizards, to rabbits, makes a great companion for children and adults. A pet can become a beloved part of a family. However caring a family may be, sometimes it is hard to always watch over a pet, which can lead to tethering an animal outdoors.…
To no surprise there has been a great debate about rodeo and the way the livestock are treated. With being in the rodeo myself I have heard harsh opinions countless of times. People think the way animals are treated is considered animal abuse, and with involvement and personal experience in rodeo this is not the case. People think that while the audience of the rodeo is being entertained, animals are physically aggravated to an immoral extent.…
I’ve realized in my lifetime that saddling a horse that you are going to ride is not as natural of an act to other people as it is to me. Since the moment I had both the strength and height to lift my own tiny saddle up to the back of my animal, I was saddling by myself. These days in the time that I set aside to ride, I don’t even think about the act of saddling, I could almost finish the act blindfolded. In my realization that not all people know how to saddle a horse and if they have an idea it may not be the proper way, I decided to share my knowledge in this area with others.…
