On week 1 I had my very first general psychology lesson. It was a very enriching and interesting lesson. We learnt about the subfields of psychology as well as the psychology perspectives. There are 5 psychological perspectives.…
I struggle with this daily because I have trouble knowing when to stop if I have a belief that I can do an activity better than I am doing it now. I will overwork myself and often take steps backwards; until it is too late to realize the harm I have caused.…
The psychodynamic model of abnormality suggests that past experiences, early relationships and recollection of traumatic events during childhood, coupled with any presenting psychological conflict, can affect an individual’s thoughts, behaviors and emotions (Comer, 2014). Therefore, suggesting Steven’s behavior is largely determined by his underlying psychological forces, which he is not consciously aware of (Comer, 2014). For this reason, a psychodynamic therapist would be interested in gaining a deeper understanding of how Steven perceives himself and his subjective experiences, that have resulted in conflict.…

I know I need to improve on this because one of my weaknesses is if something is to hard for me to do, I get frustrated and want to give up on it. I feel like that’s a bad thing, and I’m working on it because I want to have a good future, and that means I have to overcome…
It is generally acknowledged that schizophrenia has an etiology which is biological. In any case, the movement towards this assertion is still under study, and the etiology of schizophrenia has been the subject of long discussions over the past years. The level headed discussion has been part between the individuals who propose psychodynamic etiology and those that hypothesize biological etiology to schizophrenia. For proponents for psychodynamic origin to schizophrenia, non-natural variables, for example, family connection and upsetting life occasions have been proposed to be part of the reasons that one could acquire schizophrenia. Be that as it may, these hypotheses have gotten minimal experimental/evidence support.…
As a young child, my grandfather told me there are two types of people in the world: those who live life in black and white, and those who live in the gray area. While life in black and white is very straight-forward, to the point, and consistent the gray area is the place to be. Though it may be viewed as wishy-washy and inconsistent, the gray area provides consideration of extenuating circumstances. The gray area is where compassion, understanding, and kindness thrive. So it would only make sense for me to implement a “gray area” tactic to being a clinical psychologist.…
I believe that the perspective that best explains the human behavior is developmental perspective. This perspective combines heredity along with our environment, allowing us to get a broader view of what could possibly be changing someone’s behavior. As stated in our book, “development can be seen in predictable processes as growth, puberty, and menopause”. This kind of perspective lets people see predictable changes. For example, when a child grows up he or she will start to act differently due to the changes of his or her surroundings.…
The seven perspectives of psychology are humanism, psychodynamic, social cognitive, cognitive, biopsychology, and evolutionary. Each perspective is different and focus on different things. Behaviorism This category deals with the principle of stimulus response. Ivan Pavlov & John Watson conducted work in order to create the term “Science of Behavior” which showed their desire to get psychology focused on only observable…
In Psychology, there are six perspectives it is divided into. The main three examples are Behavioral perspective, Cognitive perspective, and Humanistic psychology. Behavioral perspective is the viewpoint that finds the source of our actions in environmental stimuli rather than in the inner mental process. We then have Cognitive perspective; this puts an emphasis on the mental processes. The last one we will look at is Humanistic psychology.…
Introduction Erick Erickson develops a psychosocial developmental theory which was deriving from Freud’s Psychodynamic theory and Erickson’s theory also knows as Neo-Freudianism. There are similarities and differences between Erickson’s psychosocial developmental theory and Freud’s Psychodynamic theory. Erickson’s psychosocial developmental theory is more comprehensive compare to Freud’s Psychodynamic theory which explain human from birth to death and focus more on social interaction influence on human development. Erikson’s psychosocial developmental theory consist of eight stages with different themes which include, trust vs mistrust, autonomy vs shame and guilt, initiative vs guilt, industry vs inferiority, identity vs role confusion,…
The behavioral, humanistic, and cognitive perspectives each have vastly different views and theories. Each one analyzes and tackles psychological disorders in it’s own unique way. For example, there is the case of Jake. Jake is a student who has recently been diagnosed with anxiety disorder after starting harder classes for his major. Each perspective has different views on the origins of his anxiety and how to treat it.…
Psychology is one of many fundamental components within the field of allied health to address when treating patients. The definition of psychology provided from the Australian Psychological Society 2015 states that; “Psychology is the scientific investigation of mental processes (thinking, remembering and feeling) and behaviour. Understanding a person requires attention to the individual’s biology, psychological experience and cultural context.” There are five different perspectives in psychology; Psychodynamic, behaviourist, cognitive, evolutionary and humanistic. Although they are radically varied in regards to their approach of psychology, each has made distinctive and significant contributions.…
Laura, is a forty-seven year old female, who is seeking therapy. Laura’s doctor recently referred her for treatment of depression. During Laura’s first session, she revealed that she is currently living with her common-law partner, of 15 years. She admitted to having a good relationship with her partner, however, stated that she keeps her distance and has trouble sharing her feelings with him. In addition, Laura acknowledged that she infrequently discloses private woes, and vexations with her partner and her friends, in fear that she will be seen as a “complainer”.…
The aim of this essay is to explain, evaluate and critically discuss the Psychodynamic and the Humanistic perspective and how they help our understanding of the treatments for abnormal behaviour. It will explain and look in to Freud’s Psychodynamic theory, which include the psychoanalytical/iceberg theory, his psychodynamic model of personality and the psychosexual stages of development. It will look at these theories in some depth, evaluate each of them and show how they relate to mental health. The Humanistic perspective will then be explained in the same context. It will explain what this perspective is and then look in to the approaches within the perspective.…
