The pyramid was designed by William Barton. William had the idea to add thirteen steps on the pyramid. Thomas asked William to design something that will say strength and duration. That’s why they choose a pyramid that is unfinished. Above the eye they’re are words “Annuit Coeptis” that means “god has favored our undertaking”. The Continental Congress were the first ones to create the Great Seal. On July 4th when the United States designed the seal and the Declaration of Independence has gotten adopted, which is what they called it. The second Congress told Francis Hopkinson and he created the flag but asked him to create the seal but his designs also got rejected. ( authors name couldn’t be found)
History behind the Great Seal is interesting. They wanted the first design to be a red sea before Moses and the Israelites. And the motto was different they wanted it to say “rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God” this design was created by Thomas Jefferson. In the year 1934 there was a secretary named Henry A. Wallace and he was waiting for a meet with the secretary of State Cordell Hull. As he was observing the letter and the dollar bill he said he was struck because the reverse side was never used.
