Racial categories are solely social and political, never predetermined or biological. Racial formation is often used to describe social structure. The Industrial Revolution was a time period in which new machinery and manufacturing was built to replace hand labor. New chemical manufacturing and iron machinery, improved water efficiency, the increasing of steam power and the developing of machinery tools. A more effective way to use fuel was by burning coal instead of wood. People’s lives were changed by the Industrial Revolution. “The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in the Industrial Revolution, which also saw improved systems of transportation, communication and banking. While ization brought about an increased volume and variety of manufactured goods and an improved standard of living for some, it also resulted in often grim employment and living conditions for the poor and working classes” (history.com). Many people were against the Industrial Revolution because it took away jobs from many people who previously had hands on jobs. This affected families because parents had to take care of their children and now some were without a job. Although, the Industrial Revolution benefited America, it took many years for workers to get used to. The Industrial Revolution also had an effect on the states and the economy because many workers were loosing their job and becoming homeless. The concepts of race, religion and class have been historically used for classifying people and groups. There are many American institutions and entities that have provided obstacles to equality and helped in maintaining stereotypes in the past. The Emancipation Proclamation, the Industrial Revolution, women’s right convention and Indian entities were recognized and eligible to receive service from the bureau of Indian affairs. However the following institutions: family, economy, state, media and education were affected in positive and negative ways by the events listed above. Without these stepping-stones in American history, America would not be what it is
