In the Central Park Five case language is used throughout the newspapers and press to bring in stereotype causing racism of the color people. Five young teenger were convicted of rapping a white jogger. “People fear crime..coming from poor minority..black and Latino young men..responsible for the problem” (Griffin, The Climate: New York in 1989). Stereotype is cause by one’s perspective and it can kills life when its use too much. Through the use of language it brings in racism to one group or more people. Racism brings in imagery and pathos to the reader mind. It make it seem like all poor minority, not just black or Latino are bad and do crimes but race that are in a poor neighborhood. These boys are innocent. Not all poor people are bad and not all white people are good. Not all the problem are cause by black or Latino people. In the Central Park Five case, the media and press identified the young five boys as “Wolfpack that was out wilding’ (New York Daily News, Park Marauder Call it: “Wilding”). The media uses Othering to create the image of animalization toward the Central Park Five boys. The words “Wolfpack” is an example of animalization towards the boys. They are being called ‘Wolfpack” animal meaning that they are less than a human being. This creates a whole new level of thinking. The media uses imagery to create animalization in peoples mind to think that the boys are like animal causing the people to think that the boys are guilty. This theme opens space to demonstrate how stereotypes is show up by resenting Other as animal. By characterizing the boys as animal, the use of language can show power by making the boys seem lower and influence people to believe that the boys are like animal.
