Rakim Mayers, more popularly known as A$AP Rocky is an American rapper from New York. Rocky adopted the name from his involvement in the "A$AP mob" (the A$AP mob is a collective group of hip hop artists from Harlem, New York) this is where Rocky's career first started. In 2011 Rocky released two singles that gained recognition via Youtube, he then followed up by releasing his breakout mixtape Live. Love. A$AP - this was highly critically acclaimed.
Rocky lived in Harlem, New York his whole life and grew up around hip hop music. At the age of eight Rocky learnt how to rap from his brother; his brother was later shot dead when Rocky was thirteen years of age. It's safe to say Rocky lived a hard life, he was forced to move from homeless shelter to homeless shelter with his mum and younger sister throughout his adolesence and sold drugs to earn money for his family. Since then his career has taken off and he is highly renowned; in 2012 Rocky was nominated for BBC'S Sounds of 2012 and has started his own label called A$AP Worldwide. After his new found fame he released his first album called Long. Live. A$AP, this album was supported by four singles, "Goldie", "Fuckin' Problems", "Wild for the Night" and "Fashion Killa". Since then he has also released another album called At. Long. Last. A$AP, this album was supported with three singles, "Lord Pretty Flacko Jordye 2 (LPFJ2)", "Everyday" and "L$D". Both albums debuted at number one on Billboard
