CANADA SHOULD ABOLISH THE SENATE
The senate is an essential part of Parliament. Senate plays quite an essential role for Canada’s law and society as the country is made up of 13 different provinces that each holds a variety of different rights and values for the country. The senate’s job is to take care of laws and help in making of laws that govern our society. Senate is as important to government as the juries to the court. It is also mentioned in the British North America Act that “It shall be lawful for the Queen, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate and House of Commons, to make Laws for the Peace, Order and good Government of Canada…” This continues to provide the significant importance of the Senate in Canada and for the people of Canada. The senate has maintained peace and unity among the citizens of Canada. According to the research, Canada’s first Prime Minister John A. The people who make up the senate are chosen by the Prime Minister and they have played an immense role in representing the regional interest of the people of Canada since it was first established. It represents a part of our constitution that should never be eliminated. It is significant to our country and all the minority groups and people that it represents (Forsey, 2005). Canada needs laws that are just to balance its society and the Senate is there to ensure that such laws are put in place. In Canada all bills have to be voted on before they become law. The Senate provides parliament with the opportunity to examine and consider bills before they are passed and become laws. Many minorities and groups that would not be heard or normally represented in government are represented in the Senate. Over the years, it has continued to play an important role in not only assisting parliament with the passing of new
