Tuesday, I observed an occupational therapy session. In this session, the therapist focused on things that were requested by the parent. This child has trouble seeing the board at school. The therapist created a mock classroom setting to assist the child with her visual skills. The therapist also typed words in various fonts. This would help the child to be able to recognize words in small fonts as well as bigger fonts. The facility has to keep the old files for a least 7 years. Me and the receptionist worked together to put each of the old files onto the computer. I did get a chance to work with a 17-year-old, who has neurological problems. We worked on hidden picture games and grip strength. Grip strength practice was also something that the parents requested. This patient sees an occupational therapist for other skills and goals. Moreover, I did not get a chance to observe the session. I mostly assist each of the patients with free time and transitioning. Free time and transitioning includes the following: playing games of his or her choice; or helping with homework.
