Reflection Of My Diet

Through the last five days, I kept track of the foods and beverages I consumed and the portions of the meals. I also made note of how I was feeling each day and how much energy I had throughout each day. As the textbook, Nutrition: Your Life Science, stated in Module 1, the characteristics of a healthy and balanced diet consists of “moderation, variety, balance, and adequacy with Calorie control” (Turley and Thompson 31). In the past week, I have attempted to follow these characteristics by including food in my diet that I do not normally consume in my daily diet. With the help of the textbook and online sources, I have begun planning my meals with nutritious foods for the week in order to obtain the well-balanced diet that will consist of …show more content…
I want to be able to understand my current diet before any moderations. For breakfast on Tuesday, January 30th, I had whole grain cereal with almond milk as well as a cup of coffee with cream and sugar. I had a spinach salad for lunch with vegetables, cheese, and balsamic dressing. For dinner, I made flatbread pizza with mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and mushrooms. I mostly drank water and a glass of iced green tea for lunch. After analyzing my diet on this day and knowing how I have eaten in the past, I concluded that my diet does not have variety or moderation. My serving sizes tend to be quite large even though I eat healthy foods. The textbook mentioned the “hunger and satiety mechanisms” (Turley and Thompson 9) that our body uses to signal when you are hungry and full which is something I tend to ignore most of the time. I think if I pay more attention to what my body is telling me, I will be able to cut back significantly on my portions. Since I do not eat any meat besides salmon, I plan on taking an iron supplement and try to eat more beans and lentils. I plan on being more aware of the foods I eat and keeping track of how much water I drink. By decreasing the carbohydrates and sugars I consume and exercising more frequently, I hope to feel healthier and better about
