The importance of planning a lesson is that it allows us to decide on what topic we will cover, what information we will present, how we intend on presenting that material to the students. The main elements to preparing or planning for a lesson are we must have an aim and clear, challenging and achievable expectation for the students. If we do not have these objectives the lesson may turn into a free for all.
In the planning stages, there is a risk that the activities can become a bit of a free for all, with uncertain learning outcomes. Therefore, you need to plan both what the learning goals are and how they will be achieved. It is a good idea to build milestones and events that will lead to the acquisition of those learning goals in to plans.
