Reflection On Learning Through Reflection

Learning Through Reflection During this semester, I finished three main essays. They are the summary and response, rhetorical analysis and argumentative essays. In general, I think I have improved in many aspects within my professor’s help. In high school, students were only required to write 120 words for an essay, but in college, we are normally required to write at least a thousand words for an essay. At first, I had no idea how to just finish it, and just reach the word count, but now, I am not troubled by such feelings since I have mastered the effective use of sentence length, organization, transition words, and some other skills. In this way, I feel my writing ability has reached a new level. Even so, I still have much to do like …show more content…
At the beginning, I had almost no idea about this one, because I had never seen it or heard of it before. It seemed a completely new challenge in front of me, which forced me to study a series of new concepts like rhetorical devices. I think they are quite helpful because they can not only be used in rhetorical analysis, but also in many other aspects, for instance, oral presentations. Since I put much effort and energy in revising it over and over again, my word choice and grammar became better meanwhile. Consequently, I was satisfied with my final draft. In this way, I felt that I was becoming a stronger writer with improvement of writing ability and growing …show more content…
Related to the personality I took before, it said that I had a low level of extraversion. Indeed, I think I am an introvert person. I enjoyed time alone and thinking alone. Moreover, I insisted on listening to news every day, which also helped to develop my critical thinking. As for organization, I always followed my teacher’s instruction, so it was not too difficult to make a clear outline. Referring to weaknesses, I think my weaknesses are applying complex sentence structure and vocabulary. Since I used simple clauses too often, it was hard to make progress by just writing as much as possible. Therefore, I intended to read more long sentences, and analyze their structure deeply. Also, I tried to translate long sentences. As for vocabulary, I have made progress although there was still a long way to go. According to the personality test, it said I was willing to deal with tough times and had a strong resolve. Exactly, I strongly believe I will be better through working on my

On the first day of class, I felt pretty confident about my level of skills as a writer, but little did I know there were a lot of aspects in my writing that could be improved. As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

Going through elementary school reading was always a struggle for me. It was challenging for me to fully comprehend what we were doing and reading in the class. Every friday I would go to see a teacher one on one to practice reading it involved being timed and having to tell her everything I had just read so that it would build up my comprehension. I remember feeling very embarrassed to be pulled out of class for extra help. Going through that didn't help that much, I was missing class…

I have one job that I absolutely love and another one that I do not care for very much, I did not really understand why because I get along well with my coworkers and higher ups. As our course went on and I started to understand business some more I then realized why there were certain things that were shaping my views about my jobs. “When you finish with your homework, make sure you read for at least 2 hours,” my father would always say. Every time I heard this, I would get irritated. I was a 10-year-old girl quickly trying to finish up her homework, hoping to be able to finish in time to watch her favorite T.V. show. I did not want to read; certainly, I did not want to read even more because my father was forcing me to read. My father always had this idea that reading would one day make you smarter and knowledgeable.…

At the start of this semester, I felt a bit of uneasiness; this quickly subsided because the assignments helped me to build confidence. Two of these assignments were the evaluation essay and the literary analysis, which were most vital to my progress in developing ideas, attributing support, and reading, reflecting, and responding to texts. The first piece, the reading response, was important to developing ideas and gather information to support my points. For my essay, I evaluated the movie Coco. Initially, I only had a vague understanding of how to prove or support points using context but through reading examples of other established authors doing exactly that from the textbook, I was able to make my own effort.…

Some students transition from high school English classes to college level English classes without a problem; unfortunately, I was not one of them. In high school, I received all A’s on my English essays. In the beginning of core, my essays were not up to the standards my professor was expecting. My professor pointed out to me that I was making the same mistake, “your essay is lacking development,” she would say. I did not understand what I was doing wrong; certainly, this was the way I’ve been writing all of my essays since high school and it seemed to be just fine.…

Introduction The time I spent with my student during our tutoring sessions gave me a first-hand experience of how it is like on a student to teacher level. I learned a lot from my student, Kade, as I hope he also learned from me. During this time, I was able to observe his strengths and his weakness. I had to be flexible to cater my lesson plan to my student, so he could build upon what he learned and advance through more challenging activities.…
