First experience
During the massage I was focused on not trying to hurt the client as it was my first time working on a female, therefore I felt nervous as well and less confident while working on the client, but after time passed I became more confident while doing the massage and asked more questions and used different massage techniques.

This happened because of what was known as the ‘massage scandals of 1894 and the resulting actions of the founders of the Society of Trained Masseuses. Therefore the body-as-machine model was created, the purpose of this model was to create a particular attitude towards the patient this attitude stripped away any association between touch and sensuality. Massage students took up this model and viewed the body dispassionately taking away any connection between touch and eroticism and put distance between themselves and prostitutes. The body as a machine was a very important and highly important strategy for the founders as it was largely involved in proving the legitimacy of the profession. This model has played a major role in defining physiotherapy’s professional identity and it has cemented physiotherapies position among other health care professions. Therapeutic touch has been a vital component in the development and definition of physiotherapy practice and continues to be one of the professions principal in distinguishing competencies. It is axiomatic that touch is innately sensual both as a broadly sensory experience, and an experience linked to sexuality. It is also axiomatic that all practitioners of therapeutic touch must demonstrate that they can manage this sensuality if they are to distinguish themselves as physiotherapist/ therapeutic professionals and not be associated with unregulated or morally reprehensible
