Originally, I wanted to focus my research topic on the idea of organized religion because religion genuinely confuses me. I saw this research paper as an opportunity to learn more about various religions, possibly comparing multiple, which I found vastly intriguing. However, my brainstorming session came up fairly short, and I remained unsure of how to proceed and explore the topic further. Through meeting with my professor, I decided to write about the psychology of religion, illustrated in my proposal. I legitimately desired to research this, but found it extremely difficult to conjure up a functioning thesis. Specifically, I could not devise an argument about the psychology of organized religion. The paper would have been purely analytical, something I was not comfortable with because I believed an argument was necessary for a compelling paper.
