Throughout my time in high school I have taken AP US History, AP Government, AP Lang and AP World. I definitely enjoyed AP Government and AP World the most out of those classes which I'm pretty sure have contributed to my interest in International relations. Learning about factors that contributed to major events in history like World War 1, World War 2, The Opium Wars, Spheres of influence through imperialism and colonization of land throughout the world have all been extremely interesting. Learning about how these events shaped history helps me to understand current global events. Trends like economic competition, militarism and immigration are still seen in the world today. My dad came to this country when he was 10 during the civil war in El Salvador. My grandma made the decision to come to the United States because if she had stayed in El Salvador my dad would have had to be a soldier in the militia. The militia was barging into family homes in the middle of the night and abducting children to force them to become part of the Escuadron squad. That war had an extremely high casualty rate so if my dad hadn't come to this country when he did he probably wouldn't be alive right now or could possibly have severe post war syndrome. This story inspires me to learn about issues like immigration because of the effect it has had on my life. I strongly support immigration because I believe it gives people a means of social mobility and a way to earn a better lifestyle. The United States was formed through various pattern of immigration throughout history. The richness in cultural diversity and skills is what has made this a country a country of
