English is a well-known language all over the world, I’m a college student attending the University of Houston Downtown. I am currently enrolled in an English class, through the lessons of this class I have developed lots of qualitative skills that I can use in any other essay I must write in the future. Even though is not my first language I enjoyed learning English with Professor Claudia smith. She has introduced me to many different styles of writing and books. One of the many thing we constantly talked in class was a book titled “just mercy”. We also talked about writing evaluative and argumentative essays. The overall class structure was very common and clear. English was a great opportunity for me to enhance my English vocabulary and …show more content…
For my first essay which was an evaluative essay I can recall the specific use of the book in which I target the view on interracial couples. Because Bryan in his book dealt with an interracial case. In which a black male who had a family was flirting a white waiter. The situation was tragic and the man was sent to jail for that. Form reading that specific case I pointed about that even in today generation we see interracial couples still being treated inequality. As for my second paper I wrote about the idea that interracial couples had more benefits then negatives our society, however for this essay I researched more websites to have a strong argumentative essay. However I also used the book to add on to the essay. In addition to both essays my final essay was ten pages long, it consisted of more evidence and research as well as knowledge from my part. I also added the inequality in gay and lesbian couples in our generation. Overall I think all three of my essay proved a point in which I supported interracial, gay and lesbian couples, because I believe that have a right to love and be with whoever they

Overall the essays that we have read this semester have been good. There are a few essays in particular that I think benefited me the most was “The Time to Act I Now” written by Al Gore, “Just Walk on By” written by Brent Staples, and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” written by Martin Luther King. These essays have benefited me in a numerous amount of ways in which I am going to explain how their writing styles helped me become a better writer. Staples helped me a lot in which he taught me to explain my reasoning fully so that the audience know exactly what I am talking about. Another thing that Staples taught me was to explain the setting of the story in full detail so the readers can visualize what’s actually happening in the story this…

Before beginning this course, I knew that I lacked confidence within my writing. People say that you are your own worst critique, and I fully agree with that statement. My writing was not terrible in some aspects, but I knew that it needed to be improved upon. I lacked the experience needed because writing was not something that I did on a daily basis. When I first started English 1302, the little confidence that I had significantly plummeted since my writing seemed childish compared to other students.…

It has been nine years since I have attended college and eleven since I have taken an English course. The first English Composition class I took in 2004, was very dry, and the expectations from what I remember were extremely low. We read excerpts, wrote reflection papers, and that pretty much sums it up. When I reviewed the classes needed for my current degree of interests, I immediately convinced myself English Composition would be the easiest way for me to ease myself back into college. My expectations were low only because of what I experienced before, and I felt this was the place to start in order to help bring my confidence up about returning to college.…

Throughout the semester of English Composition I, I learned any new things. Over the past few months I have learned many new tips on how to create a good paper. This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
