Response To Women

Improved Essays
I will start that I did not expect the response to varying as much as I thought. There are similar tones to the women yet they all manage to figure out their own goals. The responses I received from these women all varied which I found interesting. Even the two women who did not have children. The first person I interviewed was Yeni. Yeni is a good friend of mine. When I first met, her I thought she was actually in her 20s until she told me she was in her 30s. I found this shocking about her because somehow, I can talk to her and relate to her like most of my peers. In some ways, she still had a youthfulness to her personality. I told her about this but she talked negatively about her being stupid rather taking it as a compliment. She is humble …show more content…
I found her through my mom’s friends. She had two children at a young age. Her experience is not the normality for a mother in her 30s because she had children at a young age. Her experienced was different for someone compared to normality in society. I asked her what age she had her first child at 16. She mostly answered my questions by storytelling. She started by saying she grew up in a small village. Yanet only completed elementary and revolved her life on helping her mom with the household jobs. For a better opportunity, she got married at 15. Yanet and her husband decided to come to the U.S.A and had their first child here. She stated that she wished she took the chance to go to high school when the nurses encouraged her to go to school. Her husband did not approve of that and wanted her to be a stay at home mom. After a few years of that lifestyle, she decided to get a job. Her experienced reminded a bit of my mother lifestyle. This made me think if maybe this could relate to people who live in smaller villages and especially outside of the country. I asked her if she had an ideal way for a child. Yanet said the perfect age would be after having a career and being older. I asked if a specific age and she responded with 27. I asked what did her family thought about her having a child at a young age. Yanet’s parents were fine with her decisions since she left the house and got married. Although, when she came to the

After the final bomb was dropped in 1945, the social landscape and status of women in America began to change. The Second World War created job opportunities for women, opening the door for positions usually reserved for men. Between 1940 and 1945, the female percentage of the U.S. workforce increased from 27 percent to nearly 37 percent, and by 1945 nearly one out of every four married women worked outside the home (10, “American Women in World War II”). This active participation in the labour force in the United States was a catalyst for the women’s rights movements that took place post World War II. Women fought aggressively against the state, in the courts and even in the home for equality and social status.…

Intergenerational Interview Paper Introduction The person that I interviewed was my mother, Catherine Scurlark. I thought I knew everything there was to know about her, but after this interview I feel like I have a much better perception about who she actually is and how the impact of events has shaped her into the woman that she is today. My mom is 50 years of age – according to Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development, that puts her in the middle adulthood (generativity vs. stagnation) category.…

Often times, people perceive women as weak - it's seen in the fairytales with the dainty damsel in distress, waiting for a man to save her, as seen even in modern takes of stories like Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty. This sort of submissive take on females has been told over and over since the beginning of our history when men hunted and left women to give birth and gather fruits. The weakness of women has been woven into story after story, until we believe it to be a universal truth and allow men to take dominant roles in society. After all, men like Prince Charming are perceived to be stronger for a reason - men generally have more of the hormone testosterone, which increases muscle mass and makes them look stronger. Women tend to develop more estrogen than testosterone, and naturally less muscle mass than men while being more emotionally vulnerable due to menstrual periods (they are also more prone to depression than males).…

In the movie Babies (2010), there were some distinct differences in the development of each baby based on its gender. As stated in Santock (2016, p. 169), boys are more likely to engage in rough tumble play as well as risk taking. These characteristics were seen in the Mongolian child, Beyarjargal. Since he was the only male baby, he stood out as the mischievous one compared to the other three female babies. More often than not, he was filmed getting into interesting, also possibly dangerous situations.…

Elinor Burkett’s article What Makes a Woman addresses the topic of gender stereotyping. She emphasizes the need to erase the difference between the definitions of what makes a man and what makes a woman. Due to her status as a woman, and one who has gone through gender studies, Burkett has considerable ethos behind her claim, along with support from anecdotes that build upon the pathos utilized throughout her article. However, while Burkett’s use of pathos strongly supports her argument, as does her credible background as a woman, she puts forth very few facts to create a solid logos core for her topic. As a result of this missing logos core, Burkett’s argument falls short from proving the point that women and men are equal and should be treated so.…

At first when the professor mentioned in the beginning of the semester that we would have to write a paper highlighting our growth, I was skeptical with how much one could grow in a single semester. If anything I thought that one might grow but not significantly that it is so obvious. I was quite mistaken of course, and found myself reflecting on real growth. One that stands out to me is when I looked for a sexism article.…
