There are a lot of things that need to be taken into consideration when making a documentary film. One common issue that arises with documentary filmmaking is ethical issues. When people go to see documentaries, they are usually looking to be informed on some kind of topic, but some filmmakers might not use the most ethical approach to achieve that goal. Documentaries can “stand for or represent the views of individuals, groups, and institutions” (Nichols, 45). This can lead to issues later, because if a filmmaker’s documentary shows a person in a different light then the way they see themselves, they are not going to be too happy.…

The first video of the documentary is “Our Plan” which takes place in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. It starts with the beginning and discovery of oil, also called petroleum back in those times. The tone was very reflective for me due to all the information that the video supplied the viewers with. It goes into detail about how the industry started and what came about it once everyone realized how valuable oil really was. There was so much that I really took in and really enjoyed learning about.…

Even in the rise of factories, agricultural labour was still the base of two-thirds of labour by the end of the nineteenth century . That being said, factory workers grew from “a few thousand in the 1870’s to nearly 300,000 in 1892 .” Although factories were not as large as agricultural work yet, factories pushed to the modernization and industrialization of Japan to be the large country it was by 1912.…
